I think the problem with anything with a lens is that you tend to get what you ay for. You could try a decent camera shop where they may have something good but 2nd hand and you could try it out in the shop?

Namsnanny I’ll look into it
I am ashamed to say I am just a happy snapper

That's very nice of you NotSpaghetti to find that link, Thank you .
I'll go and read it now.

Yes, that's the point really, to just carry the phone around.

Although one professional online highlighted the need for good lighting, to get a good photo, which rather suggests a more controlled (set up) organised attempt.
I was thinking I could use it whilst out and about, but this might not be possible if lighting is critical.

It all needs thinking about.

This has great reviews:

But over £100.
However - if it means you no longer need a camera.... ?

I would not expect ^anything; of a £4 lens tbh.

No me neither, I just thought I could mess around with it before I chose the one I really like

NanaTuesday I have a Samsung A50 (broke the screen in week 1).

Thank you for this info.
I will try again, but I find learning something new takes me a very long time, I'm ashamed to say.

So I was hoping someone could just give me some less technical advice.

Namsnanny

I hope everyone is out and about having a lovely week end.
In the hope that I might catch someone at some point who is interested in the subject matter, I will keep bumping this.

I hope I don't annoy people! 😊

Namsnanny ,
Do you have an iphone?
If so , there are lots of free online courses / hints etc .
An iPhone has an excellent camera & has many editing tools . Also Samsung has a good camera, though I am an iPhone girl 👌

When you say 'them' Gwyllt, I've seen packages for 3 lenses, fish eye, macro, and something else confused, is that what you have?

I would like to try telephoto and macro (very close up).

Some need apps, others need to have a special case.

So far I am looking at one at £4 and one at £30.

Interested to read others opinion as husband bought me some and I am ashamed to say not got into them yet

Good suggestion OldFrill (I keep wanting to type NoFrills!)
I will try it later when I've finished the weeding (next millennium at this rate 🤣)
Thank you for replying.

I've just looked again, but nothing resembling a food setting.
My camera is just an extra thing to carry, so I was trying to find a way of reducing baggage.
Thanks very much Notspaghetti for replying 😊

OldFrill Sun 05-May-24 12:22:50

Or even does! I haven't seen many good reviews for lenses for android.

OldFrill Sun 05-May-24 12:20:48

Have you tried google? If you ask 'type of phone, macro lens recommendation' or similar it should come up with some help, a relevant forum, or you may have to adjust your question. The make of phone is probably key. Some phones have macro features but still aren't great, manufacturers just incorporate a cheap lens in order to make the claim. My current phone doesn't have a separate macro feature but is better than a friend's phone which doesn't

NotSpaghetti Sun 05-May-24 11:22:50

I don't have a particularly good macro lens on my mobile. It's better than my husband's and my daughter's but not very good.

I'd be interested to know - but if I actually wanted macro photography I'd use my camera really.

Have you tried your phone's food setting? I find that to be best for close-up images.

OK Thanks BlueBell

I don’t feel I need anything my iPhone takes good photos

Namsnanny Sat 04-May-24 15:19:41

Any one tried these?

Obviously some are more sophisticated than others, but I was looking for something not too fiddly or technical.

I'd hoped to try to take better close up photos.

I'd be very interested in anyone's experiences.

Thanks for reading
