I use DuckDuckGo. No problems so far.

I use DuckDuckGo too. It's great at covering your tracks and I've even got an @duck.com email address to give out to businesses that anonymous data.

The error PR_CONNECT_RESET_ERROR can occur when browsing the net using the Mozilla Firefox browser and causes a sudden interruption in your connection to the website you were trying to access. It can be solved by following the different methods, and for that, I found a helpful guide at: cheapsslweb.com/blog/how-to-fix-pr-connect-reset-error-in-firefox/

I hope it helps! Check it out once.

I also use Duck Duck Go to avoid google ads which were getting ridiculous on Safari.

With an IPad there doesn’t seem to be a downside, with Apple OS I just dont get virus problems, I just keep it updated.

Sago

NEVER install Firefox, some do gooder installed it on my mothers computer years ago, it infected everything.

This is misinformation.

Firefox is just an open source browser. It’s merely an agent to connect you to a place you want to visit on the web. It is the website that may have source code that contains a virus.

If you take a bus to go to the cinema and catch a cold virus from someone sitting in the next seat it wasn’t the bus that gave you the cold.

Third-party antivirus software is known to interfere with Firefox's secure connections. Firefox is doing its job. It's for the user to tweak the antivirus settings.

I've been using Firefox on Macs for years and have never had a problem and that's because Macs don't need third party antivirus software. Antivirus and malware protection is built into the operating system hence no issues with Firefox.

I have just uninstalled firefox

Hit the windows key

settings

apps

mozilla firefox uninstall

I tried the restore option but it was not successful. Firefox has now gone from my laptop

It was important to nominate edge as my default browser, otherwise links automatically try to go via firefox, which was my default browser at the time. That was very frustrating

Thank you for taking the time to write a very helpful post

My ds is a professional techie he also got rid of firefox because of glitches and he transferred to chrome. He lives at the other end of the uk and I was not going to waste our chatting time. I had already removed add ons, cleared all cookies and cache etc. That is enough for me

I appreciate that there is likely a conflict between kaspersky and firefox but I am not going to remove kaspersky. It is up to firefox to remedy the problem at source. I have yet to uninstall firefox but will do so now that edge is running to my satisfaction

I have coped very well with edge to date, obtaining most trivial passwords via forgotten password. I have always kept the important passwords such as gov gateway

I'm having problems with Firefox which I've used successfully for years. Suddenly it won't let me use Google.
I'm not technically savvy, so having just read your comments, they are double dutch to me! Help!

I use Firefox and don't have any problems. Suggest temporarily uninstalling antivirus and reinstalling firefox - it's very smooth these days, the installation. Then turn on/reinstall antivirus again (Windows defender will cover you in between).

If it's still not right you might have some corrupted files on the computer. To check for that type cmd in the search box which opens "Command Prompt". Select "run as administrator" and then type sfc/scannow and hit return. Let it run and it'll tell you if it's found any corrupt files and repaired them. If it's repaired them then should be ok after that.

The other thing that can make Firefox act odd is various addons to firefox so try removing any addons first (Eg adblocker addons).

Mine is working fine, but we have a different security system.

I must confess I loathe Edge.

karmalady Thu 18-Jul-24 14:06:07

DS also found firefox to be full of glitches and he is now using chrome. He is IT expert btw but at the far end of the uk. I haven`t bothered him. I think it is caused by the likes of kaspersky but I need kaspersky and had a little fiddle and thought `sod it`. Edge so far is fine but I am wading through passwords from my notebook

Almost every blooming site resulted in a message
PR_CONNECT_RESET_ERROR

Just having a rant as I have wasted hours out of my life

I admit defeat, having tried every fix and will now be using m/s edge as my default browser.
