Doro 8100?

Sorry I can’t help I did not know they existed.

I have a friend 88 who would benefit greatly from a much simpler phone.

I hope someone comes along who has tried it.

looked it up and it is a smart phone where as I have a Doro large button sim free phone which suits me fine! I have a text and calls sim contract for £6 a month. Got it from argos

Make sure it is compatible with VOIP as this is the way all phone calls are going. Just had to change all my phones

I have just looked it up and it seems ideal for someone who is reticent about using technology but still needs to connect with the world. It apparently has a good camera. Many moons ago I had a Doro which did the job regarding phone calls and texts but the camera images were poor. About that time my dd encouraged me to buy an iPad. Loved it and then found changing to an iPhone from the Doro so easy. I would say that 70 seems too early to give up on someone’s ability to handle everyday technology. I am 83 and I bought my dh an iPad for his 80th birthday. Then I bought him an iPhone for a later November birthday and Christmas combined. He uses his iPad every day and his phone when he goes out. It really helps if you have someone close to you to help with the questions that might arise while getting used to things.

I looked very carefully at Doro a few years ago, I thought they looked very good for my needs. At that time they only had 'folding' phones, which didn't really suit me.
I use the excellent broadband.yourcoop.coop who are very helpful and considerate.
I got a Fairphone, which I love and still have, but I would definitely consider the new Doro. However, as part of the appeal of Fairphone is that they last for ages, it will be awhile yet!

Apologies for lack of detail, he has an over 20 year old Nokia, never had a smartphone, we have a trip to Australia to see our daughter and new granddaughter next year so we thought it would be really useful for him to have and he could get used to what they can do over here before we go, he says he hates mobile phones, but I am beginning to think we will have to get used to them as that is the way things are going. I think it needs to be easy to use and fairly simple but at the same time be able to do more than just make a call. There is so much choice it's difficult to know where to start. Although they have a very limited range, only Fairphone & Doro, they are very helpful. they are decent value - yes you are not going to get all the choice you have with a major provider, but it sounds as if you find that bewlildering (so do I!)
You can buy a phone from them, get a SIM only deal, or do a 'pay monthly'.

My 100 year old mother-in-law has a Doro. I think it's an earlier model as she's had it 3 or 4 years I think now.

She uses it for messaging and calls but doesn't use many of its functions.

I find it a bit clunky but I think that's mainly because I don't knos it and am trying to work it as I work my own phone (a Samsung). She likes the "I want to" button which gives prompts "call someone" or "send a message" or "delete something" for example.

Hers has a button which takes you back to the "home- screen" so if you go off down a rabbit hole you can at least get back.

I'd say it was a success for her. She has started texting since she had it which she didn't do before.

We did populate it with her main contacts for her and spent several frustrating hours with it/her at the beginning though! 🤣

I have looked at thephonecoop (now Your Coop) website and they seem to be quite poor value - £17 per month for a 30GB SIM only.

I'd go on Compare the market instead.

The phones and SIM only's are under Utilities in the menu at the top, and you can get an unlimited SIM from ID Mobile (uses the Three network) for only £15 per month.
