I had an accounts with FB many years ago and closed it because of all the rubbish I was receiving from people I did not know.

For some odd reason I have been receiving emails this last couple of weeks.
I did recognize one name it was someone I worked with 20 years ago when I retired.
All the other people I have no idea who they are.
What is the best way to stop this very annoying email trash coming through to my in box.

Set your account to private I don’t get any unwanted mail

I too cancelled Facebook because it was getting silly: outright strangers trying to connect to be a "friend"........the whole thing got fishy and screamed the word "Scam!"
It got really stupid the day an email arrived via Facebook from some bloke in Alaska (he claimed) who knew my brother (he also claimed).........noooooo.
Click, cancelled. And now peace on Earth reigns.

Everyone gets them until they turn their account to private/ friends only then they all stop I ve been on fb since I had a phone so probably 20 plus years never had a problem

You control your account so only anyone you choose is part of your news and so no strangers see your account so can’t contact you

You can block the emails via your email provider.

You can block notifications from Face Book on your iPad / phone settings.

But I don’t understand how you are getting notifications if you dont have an active account.

Anyway it’s likely that your old friends accounts have been cloned so just delete them and block future emails.

They ask you if you want to be friends with various ‘people you may know’. I often do know them but I don’t usually accept them as friends , can’t see the point.

I'm your email in box - mark the emails as spam, block the sender.

As l read it the OP does not have a Facebook account.

It sounds to me as though someone you know has had their email account hacked and the hacker has found your email address through that account. They’ve then used facebook to try and draw you in and eventually scam you.

Thank you everyone for your comments, must be a scam, I cancelled my account many years ago and didn't receive any emails for years and years. It is only this last week that the emails have been coming through.

I have blocked them via my email provider so haven't had any since I did that.
Thanks again.
