When finances are healthier have a look at this site. Reconditioned IPads.
Apple products are the safest device you can buy.
Between us we have bought 6 from this company.
Apple support is second to none.

I bought a reconditioned IPad recently. You can buy them through an Apple shop as well. They helped me to set it up.

You don't need anything after www.ebay.co.uk/itm/326130800407. I copied the that and put it in the address box and it found it nae bother.

From the question mark to the end is just marketing reference stuff. I hate to think how much it tells the world about our computer systems, searching and buying habits etc.

War and peace just for an iPad 😂

Forgot the site 😂

Do you have a computer shop near you I find my local chap will help (free) with advise or simple stuff

ExDancer Wed 18-Jun-25 18:45:12

But I'll save that for another post ....

ExDancer Tue 17-Jun-25 10:07:37

Mmmm - i've decided to turn to Edge, not Chrome for the time being, but Petra advised deleting history on another thread so I'm going to try that. Then I may try to get rid of cookies (if I can find out how).
Thanks everyone.
I need a new tablet, but funds are a bit tight just now, DH in hospital and its costing me a packet in travel to visit.

Blossoming Fri 13-Jun-25 12:34:58

Oops, pressed post accidentally ! Meant to say they deliberately target the vulnerable and trusting people.

Blossoming Fri 13-Jun-25 12:32:11

You’re welcome ExDancer, hope it works for you. The only other way I know is quite technical and more complicated even for people who are used to computers.

The thing with these scammers is they only need a few people to fall for their tricks to make it worth their while. I loathe them, they delib

ExDancer Fri 13-Jun-25 12:05:06

That's clever, I'll give it a 'go', no wonder I couldn't find anything in apps!
You've been most helpful and I appreciate your efforts. I wonder why people go to the trouble of 'infecting' people's home computers with these programmes. Access to their money I suppose.
Good job I only have my state pension and that doesn't sit there for long.

Blossoming Fri 13-Jun-25 11:12:58

ExDancer it isn’t an app, it’s a website. You don’t need to uninstall anything.

This is the simplest way I can think of to stop it happening.

When you enter your search terms in Chrome you need to add an exclusion operator.

What this means is that you enter whatever you want to look for, e.g. ‘diverticulitis symptoms’,
followed by -sappointedmannah

Chrome should then ignore any results from that website and you shouldn’t see the message from Avira.

ExDancer Fri 13-Jun-25 08:55:06

Thats kind, much appreciated.
I reckon I need to find out where it's installed, which with windows 11 is via System and then Apps, then you get a list of the installed apps with an option to 'uninstall'. Easy, but the sappointedmanah isn't there - crafty
I'll let you know if I succeed.
I have Windows Defender as my security - perhaps I should get myself another virus/malware programme.

Blossoming Thu 12-Jun-25 23:25:14

ExDancer You don’t need to block Avira, you need to block the sappointedmannah website. I’m using Apple devices and the blocking process will be different on your tablet. I’ll see if I can find anything helpful on YouTube.

ExDancer Thu 12-Jun-25 22:33:44

Sorry, it IS avira.
Blossoming I'm sure you're right and it is a malware site, but HOW do I block it?
I cannot find it through Settings - Apps so can't uninstall it, and I don't have the skill to block it.
Can you guide me through the blocking process?
I'm using a tablet, not a phone or desk computer with a mouse, and I'm elderly and uneducated in IT.

Blossoming Thu 12-Jun-25 22:13:21

Meant to add, Avira is doing its job by blocking this site.

Blossoming Thu 12-Jun-25 22:09:43

ExDancer

sappointedmanah.org

This is a malware site that is targeting the healthcare industry. I suggest you block it immediately. It pretends to be a recipe finder or similar but it is after logon data.

B9exchange Thu 12-Jun-25 21:47:32

I think you mean Avira, which you must have had installed to protect you from viral attacks. It is obviously being a bit extra thorough, is there any way you can tweak it in Settings? It is possible the websites you chose were a bit dodgy, patient.co.uk is one of the best to look things up?

ExDancer Thu 12-Jun-25 21:46:35

sappointedmanah.org

ExDancer Thu 12-Jun-25 21:46:19

Sorry, 80 year old me can't manage a screenshot - this is across the top -

Shinamae Thu 12-Jun-25 21:45:01

Sorry, but I’ve never heard of this…🤷‍♀️

ExDancer Thu 12-Jun-25 21:37:09

Yesterday something called Alvira appeared which blocked sites, saying they are malware.
For example I wanted to help my husband who is having digestive problems and someone suggested he may have diverticular disease, so I typed 'divertivulitis symptoms' into Chrome.
Alvira blocked the page saying it was malware.
So I tried IBS symptoms, with the same result.
How do I get rid of Alvira?
I'll try to get a screenshot of the page, though I'm not sure if I know how ....
