Rogue iPad typing! Misses letters out

When I type on my iPad, letters are missed out. This has happened a lot lately. Also, I have to press very hard, and often more than once to correct it. I will type the last sentence without altering it, so you can see what I mean.

‘Alsoihae to press dry hard, and ofe more thn once to corect it.’

Has anyone got any idea what has gone wrong, and how I can sort it please? Thank you.

Usually it’s enough to restart it. Have you updated the operating system to the latest version?

My laptop has recently started doing something similar. In my case it adds symbols in between the intended letters - sometimes just one or two, but other times an entire string of them. It also changes its preferred symbol from day to day.

After typing for an hour or so it settles down. I have restarted it more than once - it makes no difference.

The most recent Samsung update really messed things about and it took a lot of hit-and-miss and a lot of frustration to sort it out.

Update does not mean improved, apparently.

My iPad can also misbehave in the same way crossstichfan , sometimes no problem though. Frustrating isn’t it? I put it down to the iPad being fairly elderly in ipad terms, it can no longer be updated. I’ll check back in case there is a fix.

Thank you Cornergran. Maybe you’ve hit the nail on the head as my iPad is about two years old or so. But surely, given how expensive they are, they shouldn’t go wrong that quickly?

I have restarted it several times. I then tried to update the operating system but it appears I need to update the iPad. I tried to do that but it said I needed IOS7 and for some reason, I can’t get that on this iPad, so it looks as though I need a new one!
I am confused and fed up! Why does nothing last these days? I haven’t had this iPad very long either! 😢

I'm always amazed that autocorrect manages to change words which I don't want changed, but if my stylus miss-hits keys and types gobbledegook it doesn't change it.

The iPad is advertised as being brilliant, but in my case, it really isn’t!

Mine is the same at the moment crossstitchfan and happens occasionally. My iPad is much older than yours so I’d be surprised if it’s unable to update itself. I have mine set to automatically update, though there’s usually a notification that it’s going to do so.
Depending on whether I’m sitting in sunlight or not, I’m often reminded that my screen needs a good clean as well, which sometimes helps!
Sometimes these glitches clear themselves for no particular reason…going into settings, then general, then keyboard and just glaring at the options, with a half hearted toggle on/of of some of the options is all that’s needed!
Visit an Apple Store and don’t be talked into buying a new one. Mostly the staff enjoy a challenge…!

Cornergran and Blossoming. Thanks for your advice and it’s a shame it didn’t work. Looks like I need to contact Amazon and that’s virtually impossible. I’d stand a better chance of getting a response from the King!
The iPad is great when it works!

Mine’s set to automatically update too, and always did until now.
I have tried all the things you suggest, but no joy. I shall have to find an Apple store.
What a pain!

Most of my typos a just big fingers or not pointing accurately, pressing harder should make no difference, touch screens don’t work that way.

If I have too many open windows across the top it slows down so I have to delete them to clear the memory space, occasionally, maybe once a week I have to restart the IPad

Amazon won’t help at all. You need this site.

It’s the iPad support site.

Does the same thing happen to others that use your iPad? It could be your fingers are too dry (yes it's a thing, zombie fingers no offence). Someone on GN mentioned she can't use self service checkouts for the same reason.
