Pulling my hair out. Inundated by sponsored adverts on Facebook

Sometime ago I was having every other message on my Facebook page as a sponsored advert. I managed to stop it by unlinking from a popular television site. However, unfortunately, I clicked on a site someone had put on Gransnet last week, only to find my Facebook page inundated again. I have forgotten what I did the last time I had this problem as it doesn’t go away, even though I go through the delete, irrelevant stages and preference settings don’t seem to help.
I would be grateful for any ideas to get rid of them. Thanking you in advance to saving my thinning hairline.

get rid of fb

You can delete them, it just takes patience. I'll try to look it up.

Not a sensible suggestion, dotpocka as Facebook can keep people in touch and can also be useful in keeping communities informed about what is happening in their area.

Just ignore them, if you get rid they just come back I just scroll straight past

BlueBelle They ruin my Facebook page. All I want to see is up to date news on my friends, my town here and where I used to live.

Allira Thank you, they are a real pain for the eyes. As I said before I did manage to stop them before.

Aren't they just awful. I now search for my friends' posts; it is amazing what I miss otherwise.

Download an ad blocker. I simply cannot remember the last time I saw an advert on the internet. I have Adblock for YouTube (if you use YouTube) and uBlock Origin Lite. You just have a blank space instead of the advert.

I have the same problem on FB. Unfortunately sometimes I see something I would like, but I would never buy from a sponsored site. If you try to find their website it is usually unavailable.

That’s a really good suggestion! How do you actually do this - I’m not terribly clever with technology!! Thanks ☺️.

I had a really good ad blocker for a few years but, unfortunately, YouTube recently decided it didn’t like the ad blockers and refused to show videos unless I disabled the ad blocker, so it’s back to ads everywhere. Facebook goes through spells where the ads appear literally every other post, like at the moment! I patiently delete them (giving no reason) and they eventually stop for a few weeks…until next time.
It’s always very annoying when people blithely say just stop using the sites. It’s not at all helpful and is very patronising.

Just scroll past I don’t see the problem you can still see all your friends and relatives photos ignore them

Following this - I know we can always scroll past - but we don't want to waste our time/temper doing so. Just have up our friends and the groups we are in and that's that. It does make the process of catching up take noticeably longer than it should be - as "they" are determined to flog us stuff we have no interest in.

Add that on the top of the censorship - which was an absolute pain when trying to spread information during Covid and Lockdown and bang a post one intended to read or had just put up oneself got censored off. We found our own language to try and bypass them - guess what a carrot is besides a vegetable for instance?

So we were getting the worst of both worlds - genuine posts censored off (which still happens to some extent) but advert posts after advert posts up there.

Don't use Facebook is the only solution. It's going to get worse now they've introduced the subscription to pay for no ads... The ones who don't pay will see nothing but ads.

Paid Facebook? I'll do my own website first.
