This morning I started my day reading the papers online, “wordling” etc.
I then played my audio book whilst cooking.
I have made 3 soups in my Thermomix ( this stores the recipes and guides you through each step so requires an internet connection).
I have received one call on my mobile and made one call.
I checked the local weather via Alexa.
I am about to go onto the desktop computer and fill in some spreadsheets.

Later I will set “Tracey” my robot vacuum going downstairs whilst I clean the bathrooms upstairs,

That should be it until the TV goes on this evening, we usually stream TV.

What technology have you used today?

Most of my tech use today is because I had 4 hours free electricity.
So washing machine on 3 times,
tumble dryer twice,
Drysoon for non-tumble items,
kettle several times for hot drinks,
Microwave for a hot choc.
Audio book while I worked and walked the dog,
answered the phone to DD1 and then DGD2,
hoovered through downstairs then
vac mopped the kitchen and bathroom floors,
made celery soup in the soup maker for lunch and the freezer
Finally had a shower.
Now I’m exhausted so I’m reading the news and doing puzzles and probably falling asleep over my Kindle.

Makes me feel for all those without power at the moment.

Started my day listening to a kindle book read by Alexa. After breakfast read newspapers online , checked e-mails and bank account. I asked Alexa for a weather forecast then asked her how to spell a word I was not sure of . DH spoke to his brother in Oz via Facebook messanger this evening while I read a kindle book . Had some sad news via an e-mail so I sent a message to my children by Whatsapp .Will end the day listening to another book having set a sleep timer for 30 mins in case I drop off and set Alexa to waken me at 8 am to-morrow .

Sobering thought and I wish I didn't have to use so much tech. Tea in bed, whatsapp and newspaper online, check emails on 2 accounts. Smart TV. Alexa for radio. Microwave several times. Click and collect in Boots. Contactless card in supermarket. Self serve checkout - really didn't want to but only 2 assisted checkouts in Sainsbury's - on a Friday?

Internet radio, Kindle, tablet, washing machine, dishwasher, mobile phone, landline phone, digital camera, online banking, Ninja, microwave, Nest thermostat, Alexa.

Woke at 6am. Checked house thermostat via Hive app on my mobile. Temperature was 14c so I turned the heating on from my phone and waited another hour before getting out of bed.

While still in bed had a look outside via the ring doorbell camera to see if the car windows were iced up. They were 🥶

Read the news on BBC app in bed while I waited for house to warm up.

Went to meet a friend for lunch in an unfamiliar area so used google maps on my phone to direct me.

Had a video call this evening via WhatsApp from my grandchildren 140 miles away.

Responded to twice daily automated texts messages to record my BP and send results to the practice nurse who has requested I monitor it for 2 weeks.

Of course I’ve dipped in and out of Gransnet several times.

MiniMoon Fri 30-Jan-26 16:07:23

I began my day by checking my Blink app for any nocturnal activity on our outdoor camera. There was none, not even the cat.
I read the news on my tablet, played wordle and posted my results.
Looked up a recipe for a sauce to serve with meatballs and spaghetti on my tablet.
Scrolled through Facebook.
While making lunch, I asked Alexa to play Magic Classical.
Put television on for the one o'clock news. It's a new Freely tv on which all of the content is streamed.
Had a phone call on my mobile from the doctor to discuss my latest blood tests.
After finishing here I will put the tv back on and watch The Antiques Road Trip.

Gracey Fri 30-Jan-26 15:52:48

I used my tablet paired to an Alexa speaker to listen to a few chapters of a book first thing.
Went on big computer to find passport renewal forms.
When I'd put on a bit of make up and sorted out my hair I took a few un-smiling selfies with my phone for the online form. Hoping one of them
meets the criteria.
I listened to music via Alexa whilst I was pottering in the kitchen.
We sat down with a coffee to watch an episode of Landscape Artist of the Year, which we had recorded. (So we can fast forward through the ads.)
Chatted via messages on WhatsApp to family and then a group of very old girlfriends.
Played a couple of games of Solitaire on my tablet, and now using the same to add this post.
Couldn't be without all these devices now. Amazing how things have changed over the years.

AuntieE Fri 30-Jan-26 14:00:26

I started today, as I start every day by grinding coffee beans and putting the kettle on.

This being the last bank day of the month, my pension has been paid into my account, so later this forenoon, I did some online banking, then I read a couple of text messages on my phone, sent two others, printed out an e-mail and the manuscript of something I am currently writing.

If by technology, we mean ordinary household appliances, I them baked bread, and of course right now, I am on Gransnet - computer again.

Fallingstar Fri 30-Jan-26 13:46:35

Wow you have a robot vacuum. Am so jealous. Are these a thing now? I just have a cordless.
And in answer to your question have used my phone. That’s all.
