Problem with HP Office Jet Pro 7720. Printer.

Thank you Graphite. I know the light you are talking about as it is indeed the WiFi which is on the front of the machine. The one I discovered is a tiny blue icon on the actual page which shows the printer model and seems to ready for printing but the word print is missing. The tiny blue icon in the top corner is the one that represents “print”. So one tap and it prints. Now have several A4 photos on plain paper ready for me to use for drawing and painting; all of our beautiful 2month old great grand daughter in the hope that she can be added to all the many paintings of the family.

The blue icon is to do with Wi-fi connectivity.

Solid Blue Light: The printer is successfully connected to a wireless network.

Slow Blinking Blue Light: The printer is in wireless setup mode or is trying to reconnect to the network.

Rapidly Flashing Blue Light: The printer is in WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) mode or having trouble connecting.

This is just an update. The yellow cartridge was installed and showed level correctly. So renewed all the colours.and printer was recognised when I tried to print a photo on A4 plain paper.
Only nothing happened and the word “Print” didn’t appear.as I tried all sorts until suddenly it printed a photo beautifully. Then it wouldn’t print again until by accident I touched a tiny blue icon at the top corner. That had replaced the word Print in an update. So thought this might be useful to anyone as daft as me as the new icon is so tiny and easily overlooked.

Graphite thank you so much. DH following a video checked all over the printer and all was clear. The contacts on the cartridges were clean but cleaned again. The new cartridge has just arrived so tomorrow we will test it out. Was looking at the HP inkjets on their website so was interested in them. My first printer some years ago was a normal cartridge Epsom and I was not happy with it. Main problem was it refused to print if the ink was the least bit low. Since then have had threeHP printers which were far more satisfactory. Perhaps Epsomhave improved by now. Also forgot to say the drawer problem somehow resolved it self. What I need is a easy set up, photos printed on plain A4 paper as I just need them as a resource for painting.Basically easy use as my 84 year old brain isn’t up to much these days. Again thank you so much for your help.

Oopsadaisy. I have been looking at adverts for HP Inkjets. I would really appreciate your experience with the one you have just had delivered.

Oddly my HP Printer has just died so I’m going for an Inkjet with colour bottles, first 3 yrs of ink are free, bottles are then half the price of the cartridges. Being delivered tomorrow………

Thank you everyone. I have ordered a new yellow hp cartridge so hope that might resolve things. If not will have to try other things like resolving the drawer issue. Thank you.

It’s impossible to diagnose what’s going on, for example, why the paper drawer wouldn’t open. That would suggest something might be jammed in the machine.

When paper jams, it often prevents the printhead carriage from moving, which the printer can detect as a cartridge error.

I think you need to systematically check over the whole machine or take it to a someone who can do it for you.

If you decide to cut your losses and buy another machine I can recommend the Epson Eco range. Bottle-filled, they are very economical to run.

Have you done a print test? If a colour thingy s blocked it should clear it, keep trying until all the colours and lines are correct.

Thank you. I have only used HPcartridges bought from HP. The message that usually comes up is that they are the correct HP cartridges. I am just concerned that if I spend money on the yellow cartridge even if it’s the standard £28 it might be money down the drain. Only thought of this when I saw all these complaints about the yellow cartridge showing as empty even when new.

Have you used HP Instant Ink in the past? I was reading the t&c (some of them before I fell asleep!) and think that you have to keep using this service and the printer shuts down if you use other cartridges even if they are HP - held to ransom

Assuming,

a. that this is a genuine HP cartridge and not a third-party one that HP firmware may block and/

b. that the yellow cartridge does have ink in it

… it could be that the contacts on the printer cartridge and inside the printer need cleaning. So if your DH is planning to do that it may solve the problem.

1. Remove the yellow cartridge.
2. Locate the copper-colored contact chip on the cartridge and the matching contacts inside the printer carriage.
3. Clean both sets of contacts gently with a dry, lint-free cloth or a cotton swab.
4. Reinstall the cartridge and check if the error persists

Four-cartridge HP models do usually require all ink cartridges to be installed and contain some ink to function, even for black-and-white printing, as they use colour for printhead maintenance.
