Do you delete conversations from Alexa?

Last night my Husband and I were talking and I said 'Okey doke', all of a sudden Alexa piped up with 'pig in a poke' - I have often seen the lights suddenly come on and we always joke and tell it to 'stop listening' but never something like this. I ask Alexa to delete conversations every couple of weeks but do you trust Alexa?

Alexa will only hear me speaking to her or to my dogs, I don’t think there’s any possible recrimination.

I didn't know you could

No I don't, nothing bad for her to hear (except me singing) It's not like I plan to murder anyone! If anyone is interested in what I say then at least someone is listening to me.

I would never have an Alexa for that reason. Its like having a third person in the room. No thanks!

This may help
Manage Alexa settings and delete data via the Alexa app (More > Settings > Alexa Privacy) or online at Amazon Alexa Privacy Settings. You can delete voice recordings by voice, individually, by date range, or set them to auto-delete after 3/18 months. Devices can be removed in the app under Devices > [Device] > Settings > Trash.

Not at all bothered if Alexa is listening to me! She won’t hear anything terribly interesting though except my off key singing along to Boom Radio!

Flippinheck Thu 26-Feb-26 16:03:15

If it’s recording me it’ll hear a lot of me talking to / yelling at my cat. Not that he takes any notice: ‘Is that another bloody mouse?; ‘Don’t drop that there’; ‘What a soggy moggy’ (he likes being out in the rain); ‘Where did you get that fish?’ (A pretty Koi. Goodness knows where that came from. ; ‘Stop clawing the stair carpet!’ ; ‘Where have you left your brain cell?’; Who’s a gorgeous boy?’. All from this week. Funnily enough Alexa will never hear him answering me.

I put on Facebook that I was about to have a cataract removed. Next day, an advert came on for an American Health Care company offering tours using Hilton hotels for for eye care operations. I don't think that the NHS would pay for the air fare and hotel accommodation. hmm. I will stick with the NHS. Facebook should note that my conversations with my 34 friends are my business only.

Our Alexa just keeps quiet unless spoken to! We really only have her there because my children say they're good for listening to music.

Completely out of the blue my alexa woke up and said

Remember to go riding today at 2pm

I don't own a horse and I've never ridden one , I don't have a bike either so I have no idea what she was on about .

I don't have Alexa and am very suspicious of the technology. Last time my grandson was visiting he asked, "Granny, don't you have Alexa?" He's used to asking Alexa to play whatever music he wants to hear to dance around the kitchen to!

DH was teling me he needed to set an arlam to do an airport run for friends, we dicussed a few options like setting his phone rather than the bedside clock etc. A few mins later Alexa chips into the conversation and asked 'DH Name- do you want me to set you an alarm for 4.30am' !

Everyone gets those adds.
Do you have any loyalty cards? If yes, that’s the one you should be aware of.
And it’s all perfectly legal.

I have to remember that my radio in my garden shed can’t hear me. I still tell it to play radio4 or classic FM.
Then I forget again and tell it to turn off 😂

I love my Alexas and no one would be interested in anything she might gather from listening to DH and I talking.

Just wait until you get the AI vesion of Alexa

It will be like listening to HAL from the film 2001 A Space Odysey.

They have a ton of data in you anyway. But l bet they can also listen in

This made me laugh 😃

I neither have nor want Alexa. Having said that my late disabled son would have loved Alexa as it would have enabled him to do so much independently.

Mojack26 Fri 27-Feb-26 16:35:56

🤣🤣🤣 I think you're quite safe! If big brother wants your info he will get it but not through Alexa.

My alexa is very nosey. Cause the other day a friend phoned in a panic as she had mislaid/lost her ipad.
I was suggesting where she should look, next minute Alexa piped up saying "have you looked under the sofa." I couldn't believe it and what was more unbelievable is my friend finally found it under her easy chair !! Weird

I only ask Alexa to play music . it's all she does..

Charleygirl5 Mon 02-Mar-26 01:57:19

I have 3 and if I ask any the time or weather, often a few times during the day, I receive it, expecting to be told I informed you three hours ago, can you not remember anything?.

She is invaluable when I am cooking because I am partially sighted and can no longer see a timer without difficulty. I only wish she could read the rear of packets of food.
