My Samsung TV which is about 6 years old switches itself on independently of me ! This happens occasionally. Has this happened to you? Any ideas of stopping it?

Yes, happens to ours too and ours is at least 11 years old.

When I was staying with my daughter I was woken at 3am by people talking loudly downstairs. The TV had turned itself on. It was a bit alarming at that time of the morning.

My Sony has started turning itself off then on again. It is quite old.

Presumably switching off at the mains will solve the issue.
I switch mine off when I don't intend watching TV. smile

Agree with Aldom just switch it off at the socket which I always do at night.

My smart tv turns itself off if it thinks it’s been on too long ( I often leave it on in the background while I m doing other things) it’s very strange when it happens and I feel like saying ‘know all I ll switch you off when I m ready to’

Our old tv used to make odd sounds when you turned it off at night.

As you left the room, it sounded like gun fire coming from it, ‘pop, pop, pop’.

DH and I pretended to stagger as if shot by outlaws!

Our old Sony will turn its self on again if the sky remote is used. If the Sony remote is used this does not happen.
Our newer Sony in thr longe is fine so it may be older TVs

Our Sony randomly changes channel when it feels like it. Blooming annoying, and it will often do it severally times in a roe. It's not an old TV.

There are many reasons why this could be happening.

A very common one is debris caught in the power-on button of your remote, so give that a clean to see if the issue resolves itself.

Or it could be something in your TV settings, for example other HDMI-CEC devices interacting with the TV e.g. a recording device, mobile phone or a fire stick.

It could be something to do with auto software updates.

It could be a loose cable.

The possibilities are too many to describe here. Best thing is to Google “Why is my Samsung TV turning itself on” then work though the possible solutions.
