Sat Nav in France?

We're off to France in the last week of June, staying at a friend's cottage, which looks to be off the proverbial beaten track. We fly out to Toulouse and pick up a hire car for two weeks and the route to the cottage seems reasonably straight forward. We haven't driven in France before and want to make use of the car to explore the surrounding areas, including going from where we're staying - roughly 15 mins from Albi - to Carcassonne. My DH will do most of the driving, but I don't want to spend all my time wrestling with the gigantic map that I've just bought. Is it worth investing in a Sat Nav, bearing in mind that the area we'll be in looks pretty rural? Do they cover all the little villages that seem dotted all over the area? The offer of the cottage came out of the blue and I've already bought an A3 road atlas and a French Language course. Excited but just a bit nervous about the driving. Any thoughts or experiences of driving in France would be really appreciated.
Thanks, Rosie smile
