Hi all! My name is Sergei, I live in St.Petersburg Russia and I am geared to give any tips to those, willing to come to St.Petersburg. If you ever come, please, don't hesitate to contact me - we'll meet and go off the beaten path!

To start with tips:

My personal hotel overview:
www.theastoriahotel.ru/- premier 5-star hotel with antique furniture and fully equipped with all mod-cons, pretty penny - not for students obviously
moika22.ru/- 4*, super location near the Hermitage, also expensive
eng.silverhotel.ru/ - small, but very English hotel for 70 euro per night (I stayed in May 2012)
Hotels on Nevsky - chain of mini-hotels, moderate rates for good quality lodging, would recommend!
en.friendsplace.ru - no stars, hostel chain - cool, clean and cheap! would recommend as well!
RA group - small dirty hotels - never ever
www.hotel-sonya.ru/loaction- a radisson hotel, very cosy, not big, well-priced, but location leaves much to be desired

www.pulkovoairport.ru/ - Pulkovo airport
www.russiancruisecompany.com - Russian Cruises
St. Petersburg Times - www.sptimes.ru/ - leading English language newspaper.
St. Petersburg State University - www.spbu.ru/e - why not get your degree in Russia?

Thank you for that list Sergei - most of us on here are not students but a bit older, presumably we'd be welcome too! smile

Thanks for the advice. I suspect that St Petersburg is rather different from the Leningrad that I visited when I was a student.
