I'm thinking of getting one. but for the life of me i can't see what my savings would be.
I live in Southend on Sea and this would only be to London. Is there anyone here who lives in my area and has a card.
If so, could you tell me what the savings are, thankyou.

I have one and the first journey to London saves a huge amount - well worth the outlay - but I do live in Scotland! grin

We live in Leicestershire and two trips to London more than equal our outlay. smile

WE have one and it has saved us greatly on our trips to Birmingham .

They are well worth the intial outlay .
sunshine here and plenty of it .

Saving 1/3 off journeys has paid for itself many times over for me (MK). You can also use it to buy 1 day travelcards to London which saves you your Tube fares. Work out how many trips it would take to make it worthwhile and decide for yourself. I know that saving about £6 off a return to London every time is more than worthwhile as sometimes DH has hospital appointments at The Royal Free once a week - if not more! (Still costs a packet or rather 2/3 of a packet)

I only live a 40 minute journey from Waterloo but it is well worth it! Just booked an Open Return to NE England and saved almost 1/3 of fare..so good value for me.

Return travel to London from Liverpool only £16.80 in April so well worth the Railcard for me.

I regularly travel from Manchester to London, so I've saved a lot with the railcard. I bought the 3 year senior railcard online - it's cheaper to buy the 3 year version.

We use some of what we save to pay for an upgrade to 1st class which is often (for us) only about £6 each and well worth it on some trains.

Once you have got it, it offers you inexpensive opportunities to explore other places trains from Southend go to, other than just London.

I notice trains from Southend go up to Southminster and link with the eastern mainline at Shenfield via Wickford. From there you can get to Chelmsford, Clochester, Ipswich and Norwich, all within a day trip and all worth seeing.

Get your railcard and East Anglia is your oyster

If you have Tesco clubcard vouchers, you can use £14 worth of them to buy a £28 Senior Railcard.

I have disabled one instead. It's the same but I think it gives a 'carer' (or should that be minder?) the discount as well.

That looks like a yes then. Thanks for all the input.
