Hi just wondering if anyone has been to Bluestone Wales. We are thinking of using it as a base to explore the beautiful surroundings of Pembrokeshire. Looking at other forums they do mention it is slightly hilly. They are pretty reasonabley priced and always seem too have some good offers every month.

I have been to visit family staying there - very nice wooden chalets/houses and nicely fitted out. They were staying in a big one and it was lovely. There are a lot of things on site to do for various ages. As you say lots of lovely places nearby.

Pembrokeshire is beautiful, probably the most beautiful county in Wales. If you do go do venture to Skomer Island off the Pembrokeshire coast. Worth a visit, especially in May/June when the bluebells are in full bloom.

We stayed there before Christmas ..kids loved Pembroke castle. Houses are lovely at Blue stone. Only problem we had is you have to park your car at the top and walk up and down the hills to the house. only allowed the car to arrive and depart. There is a bus from time to time. can be a drag unless you are a mountain goat.

DS2 and family had a very good stay at Bluestone and liked the surrounding locality as well.

I love Pembrokeshire, visited many times.Stayed at St Brides last Oct.Viewed Skomer from mainland but boat wasn't sailing that day. Lots of roadworks near the coastal path made progress slow even in SILs 4x4.Hope they will be finished by now.

Boats sail from April to end Sept I think Maniac. Island is uninhabited by humans from end Sept. Boats running now except Mondays when island closed to day visitors or if wind too strong or in wrong direction. Also closed in May for a while to allow seabird count. You can find out exact details on website.

Thanks for that Flower.I'll make a note.I once went on a bird-watching trip to Skomer-coach leaving Bristol at 8 a.m. We walked all round the island with guide.A magical day.The puffins are soooo amusing!

You may have to get there around 7.30am as the 'new' booking system means that there are queues from early. You purchase ticket for a certain time of sailing and can go and come back for that boat. Skomer is more popular than ever now but is well managed and still feels like a special island.

A more spectacular way to enjoy Skomer is to stay on the island for a couple of nights. It is very very popular again and bookings are normally taken up Sept/Oct the previous year. That way you can enjoy the tens of thousands of manx shearwater that come to the island after dark, once heard never forgotton. Sounds like a million witches.

We have gone to Pembs every year for many years. We go for a week each September and also for the St David's Festival in May (starts 25th May this year). We used to walk the coast path all day and go to lovely concerts in the evening. neither are much of an option now as my mobility is hopeless, OH has PD and also anxiety that stops him being able to go to the concerts....BUT we hire a bungalow that looks over the sea, so can enjoy that all day, and I go to the concerts on my own, so it is still a treat.

I can only reiterate that Skomer is very beautiful and I have a wonderful photo of my two oldest DDs sitting in front of the carpets of bluebells when they were little. But no photo can capture the combination of the scent of the bluebells combined with the sea air - magic!! You do need to get to the boat as early as possible because parking runs out as do places on the boat.

All my DDs did their GCSE and A level revision on the beaches there on our May holidays.
