In case anyone ever looks at this thread again, Slovenia was lovely. We stayed in Ljubljana, a delightful small capital city then drove via the limestone caves to the coast near Piran & walked/boated along the length of it. From there we travelled through dramatic limestone scenery to Tolmin in the Julian Alps & stayed in a romantic hideaway, a carpenter's workshop converted by an English guy. We followed the road through the mountains to Lake Bled & had an apartment by the Lake overlooking the island & monastery. The Lake is small enough to walk round with visits tot he Castle & we rowed ourselves tot he island. The weather in Sept was chilly at the start then very hot with some heavy rain on the last day.
We'd love to go back for more.
