Can anyone recommend a decent hotel in Suffolk for a weekend break for an anniversary please? I've no preference for place so any suggestions would be great...

The Angel Hotel in Bury St Edmunds is quite nice - provided you ask for one of the front (more expensive) rooms. The other rooms are rather ordinary. We had a weekend birthday present break there a couple of years ago and had a room looking out towards the Abbey. Very nice and the food was good too.
The Swan at Southwold has a good reputation too. Never stayed there, just ate.

We have been here a couple of times - just check that there are no weddings on at the same time. Very quiet and rural.

The bar and snug are lovely. I prefer the conservatory to the dining room, which can be a bit too quiet.

There is an old English Inn in Long Melford which is really nice. We had a huge room there. A lovely village.

Then there's Lavenham. I get all the hotels there muddled up. Expensive and quite posh, all good. We usually go to one on our wedding anniversary and that was the first place we went to so it's a few years ago now, but they were all lovely and the shops are very good there and the town/village is beautiful.

The Brudenell at Aldeburgh. Our favourite hotel of all time. It is situated right by the sea and the rooms with sea view are brilliant.

There are lots of great drives and walks and Snape Maltings are about a 15 minute drive away away. Thorpeness is well worth a walk along the beach.

The Swan in Lavenham is part of the same small group.
