Renting a campervan in Australia

What a nightmare to find clear costs and what is covered in the cost.
Not only do the sites not give clear details, the terms and conditions are so complex and go on for page after page I can't understand how anyone can make sense of any of it.
I just want to know what the basic cost is, what insurance cover I get with this and how much it costs to reduce the liability of an accident.
And what is the bond about up to $7500 that you have to pay, if you return the vehicle without damage you get your money back but you could have lost money because of the exchange rate.
It all sounds like a complete rip off to me.
Can anyone recommend a company who are transparent.
One of the Australian consumer groups said to avoid Avis, Budget and Eurocar because they exclude important details in their information.

Just need to mention we are planning traveling in Western Australia, miles away from NSW.

Might be worth talking to Trailfinders. I have always found them very helpful travel agent.

Not many places to travel to in Western Australia are there?

Jeanie I was just about to post on another tread when I saw yours. tripadvisor forums you ask a question and get a wealth of information from others. It's wonderful. A bit like gransnet you learn a lot from people on the ground. Good luck. Let us know if you find the answer.

Jeanie, I spent 2 wonderful years travelling round Australia in a camper van. It was 1973 when we set off! Much of the time we were in WA and found lots to see and do. Hope you get sorted and have a wonderful time. Perhaps I should have put this on the carefree topic as it was definitely the best of times with no responsibility.

Can't remember now, sorry as it was 2001 when we went there.

What I will say is this, beware some campsites which are basically for the down and outs. We needed to be near my SIL so just picked one near at hand. When we drove in with our spanking brand new Mercedes Motorhome the residents were aghast as they leaned back on their old clapped out vans with rusting vehicles close by.

Needless to say, we moved on pretty quick. To a campsite from the Big Four which were excellent.

Thanks everyone,

Yes I managed to book a camper van after much research phone calls and emails.
A company in Perth who answered all my questions about insurance and I managed to book at a good price
My intention was to book with a British company but the mark up put on to the Australian prices to the customer put paid to that.
Why are companies so greedy.
Can't wait to start the trip.
