In 2016 I’ll be having a holiday in Europe. Terry and I planned to save for it together, assuming it would take 3 or 4 years, but while our long time friend Elisabeth was visiting us, he suddenly said he would not be able to go himself – it would be too much for him – so I should go with Elisabeth!!

She jumped at the idea, and of course just being me it won’t take as long to save up. We’ll spend a few days with my sister in France, then over to England to visit family and the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway www.nymr.co.uk/ maybe even at the time they are doing the WW2 civilian life reenactment www.nymr.co.uk/wartime/. We’ll go to Vindolanda on Hadrian’s Wall, the York railway museum and lots more historical sites.

If we can afford it we might go to Vienna – we both speak German so that would make it easier. It would bring back memories of my misspent youth!!

Our son David said his Dad and Beth the dog can stay with him in Runcorn, about half an hour from here, where they have a large house. He can choose the spare room upstairs or the granny flat downstairs. There is a large park, which morphs into bushland directly across the road from the house, so it would be pleasant holiday for him too. He loves our daughter in law dearly, and he and David have always got on well.

It is hard to save on the pension but I’ll manage.

Roll on 2016.

That sounds fantastic Joan, it will be quite an emotional trip for you I imagine.
Don't forget to let us know when you're in the north-east, I'm sure the NE grannies will organise a Gransnet lunch in your honour smile

Ooh, I like the sound of the NE grannies giving Joan a lunch when she visits Vindolanda. I live just about four miles from there. 2016 though might be a problem. We may have moved to Scotland by then. My DH and I hardly ever go abroad, we almost always holiday in the UK. We've seen most of mainland Britain, but haven't ventured much into the west country. This year we are visiting Scotland, and next year we are thinking of the Isle of Man. If we have the weather Britain is beautiful.
