...why I have agreed to go to Gothenburg in February? confused

It came about very suddenly yesterday. DD, with her usual "I want to go somewhere - anywhere " hat on, was searching the internet for cheap flights (we are going to Rome in April so we can't justify going anywhere too expensive, and anyway, it's all a bit last minute hmm

Looking on Accuweather the temperature is likely to be minus 6 if I'm lucky, and there could well be ice and snow.

Can someone who has been there please tell me it's a beautiful city, and I will love it. Please.

Thank you Eloethan.

jeanie99. I'll take my hairdryer. And a shovel.

Anywhere with snow and ice would only be appealing to me if I was skiing.

Cold is no problem but traveling when it's snowing is not good.

We got stuck for 6 hours on the run way at Leeds Bradford airport one year.
The wings had to be de iced several times and then we kept missing out flight slot it was a nightmare.

Best of luck

You'll need one of those furry hats! (Not real fur, of course)

Thank you Riverwalk. Will send that link to DD. Definitely think the Hagar area could be the saving grace of the whole thing.

Will probably take a ferry to one of the bits of the archipelago too. Won't that be bloody cold lovely. smile

That's the way to go Jingl. When my daughter was working in Turkey I flew out to Istabul at Easter to see her. It was snowing and very cold the whole time I was there.

BUT they too had cafes there that just serve coffee and cakes smile cupcake

This area looks interesting

Quirky Haga

And it's got the biggest Fikas in town!

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 02-Feb-15 23:02:55

It's alright! I have investigated those cinnamon buns. we can spend all day in cafes drinking coffee and eating fika

That'll do me! smile

Ikea catalogue is useful for vocabulary. And I predict that you will never master the correct pronunciation of Smorgasbord. Sorry, jingl, I only saw Gothenborg (and that's another pronunciation nightmare) in very gloomy, damp weather and that probably gave me the wrong impression! I hope you have a great time.

Faye Mon 02-Feb-15 20:55:33

They eat a lot of pickled herrings, yuk. grin

loopylou Mon 02-Feb-15 20:47:35

I hope you have a great time jingl, what's the food and drink like out there?

tiggypiro Mon 02-Feb-15 20:35:58

You were lucky Riverwalk ! I have just checked the air quality measurement and now at 4.30am (their time) it is over 200 and classed as 'very unhealthy'.

At least you shouldn't have that problem jingl!

Katek Mon 02-Feb-15 20:26:49

Trial run in Aviemore (-4 today) could be an idea!

Ana Mon 02-Feb-15 20:18:10

Actually, I lied too. Anywhere where the temperature is minus 7 is not my idea of a 'fun' break! grin

Faye Mon 02-Feb-15 20:15:18

I looked on Accuweather too and tonight's temperature will be -7 C but there are a few sunny days coming up. You had better hurry up and get there jingle or you will miss them. The rest of the month is forecast to be cloudy, wow, leave the cold UK for colder Sweden. grin

I just looked at Tripadvisor and there are lots of things to do. There are many lakes to visit rug up it will be cold in February or museums, sounds like fun. Or possibly you could visit a castle draughty places. don't forget there is a Volvo museum now that does sound like it could be the highlight of your holiday. grin

I am sure you will have so much fun, I am so jealous. I lied. grin

Ana Mon 02-Feb-15 20:13:02

Wish my DD would whisk me away somewhere...anywhere would be good! grin

Katek Mon 02-Feb-15 20:06:26

And here was me thinking of going to Shrewsbury.....sort of pales by comparison!!

tiggy I've been to Beijing in February and it was very sunny .... very cold but sunny!

tiggypiro Mon 02-Feb-15 19:55:57

Get yourself some lined walking trousers, thick coat, hat and gloves (thinking ski wear here!) and enjoy. At least you will have the possibility of sunshine jingl - I am off to freezing Beijing next week and if there is any sunshine it will not be seen through the pollution.

Riverwalk Mon 02-Feb-15 19:44:59

You've missed Cinnamon Bun Day - that was in October grin

Bun

soontobe Mon 02-Feb-15 19:35:09

They have a lovely christmas market apparently, if you stay there long enough! grin

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 02-Feb-15 19:34:45

My daughter does nothing by halves. The slightest bit of acquiesence from me, and that's it. Signed, sealed and payed for. hmm

We will have fun.

No really - we will! smile

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 02-Feb-15 19:33:03

Oh! Shut up Riverwalk! Course it's too late to cancel. The flights are booked. hmm grin

That will do nicely loopy. smile

Riverwalk Mon 02-Feb-15 19:31:07

Is it too late to cancel?
