Has anyone been here? Is it as lovely as it looks. Hope I'm not disappointed.

Neuschwanstein Castle is fabulous. I visited with a tour group in the 1970's while on holiday in Austria. My lasting impression of the place was all the wonderful wrought ironwork on the doors. The view is spectacular. On the day we were there it was very clear and you could see for miles around, away across the valley to Hohenschwangau Castle in the distance. I was there in September, just as the leaves were beginning to turn. Beautiful!

PS. It was the castle used in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Thanks for that, hilda. We attempt to go there a couple of years ago but it was late in the year and we were in the Motohome. The roads were very icy.
This time we are taking the car. Going to Nancy first then to the castle. But at least it will be in July.

I'll be there before you. We are going in June. Taking our caravan to a fantastic site in Klais, which is between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the Austrian border.

We've been before - in 1991, and I was ill with food-poisoning at the time so I don't really remember it. I am very much looking forward to the return trip.

Hi lefthanded. I don't know how far afield you go, but Slovenia is fabulous for campsites.

It's simply beautiful. Def a must-see!

We went there in 1979. Breathtaking and magical. I can't remember which winter month it was but it snowed for days which added to the whole experience.

I don't have to bother driving all that way to see it. Andrew Criuckshank (sp)
was showing it last night on BBC4. Lol

It's amazing, and just as good as it looks in photos. There is a bit of a walk up to it as the car park is quite a way down, but well worth it.
It's a magical place. I hope you make it.

Can you still drive up in the horse drawn buggies? I don't know how expensive they are though.

The horse drawn buggy sounds good to me. Or, we'll take the default position where OH pulls me up hills lol
