Do they have loos on steam trains??!!

Well they did when I regularly travelled on one . . . As long as it is a corridor train you are probably OK.

We went on one from West Yorkshire to Edinburgh a few years ago and the rolling stock, whilst looking of the steam period, was not very comfortable. It was old and the seats were configured in an old style too. We didn't get long in Edinburgh - just enough time to have some lunch and it was a long and late journey back. They went a long way round and called at lots of stations to pick up/drop passengers off. I wouldn't go on one again but they may have upped their game as it was about 8 or 9 years since our trip - a birthday treat for DH.

A friend of mine went on one of their trips (maybe to Exeter?) and really enjoyed it. She said the food was fabulous.

We've done one by another company, from Northampton to the Carlisle Settle railway and had a really good time, again with lovely food.

Thanks for all the info, we just got an e-mail from them to say no steam train is available and the train will be pulled by a diesel engine, what a disappointment and you can't even get a refund or change the journey to a different day or destination... OH is very disapointed.

Perhaps he could nip into the railway museum in York while you are there. It's very near the station and the staion hotel is very pleasant if you don't want to look at trains
