Has anyone been to Las Vegas and Mexico?

We (myself/OH/2 x friends) are looking at going to these places in oct 2016, to celebrate our birthdays/anniversaries.

Can anyone recommend any hotels in these destinations. Also can anyone advise of things to avoid or things not to miss.

Any tips and advise would be much appreciated before we book.

Thank you very much in advance smile

We stayed in Las Vegas as part of a USA trip 10yrs ago loved it for a short trip but once we'd seen the sights we'd had enough to be honest. We were there at New Years so it was very busy.
Do not miss a helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon it was unforgettable and a flight down the strip on the way back, expensive but oh so worth it. Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam are impressive. We stayed at Circus Circus and it was fine but I don't think it gets good reviews nowadays as its a bit dated. Walked the length of the strip several times and explored all the Hotels , the casinos were interesting and extensive but as none of us were 'gamblers' we just took a look for interest sake. Don't miss the Fountain show at Bellagio and we also went to a Cirque du Soleil show. There is a lot to see and do all the hotels are spectacular and all worth visiting.
We drove down from San Francisco, stayed for 4 days then drove through Death Valley to Los Angeles.
It was the trip of a lifetime for me something I'll always remember.

I have been to Mexico, but not Las Vegas but have been to many other places in America. The place we stayed at in Mexico is called Playa del Carmen on the Yucatan Peninsular. So many places to see nearby including the ancient Mayan site of Chichen Itza, which the locals call Chicken and Pizza grin which, I think, is a World Heritage site. Another Mayan ruin we visited was a place called Tulum set above the most wonderful beach and I recently read somewhere or other this had been voted one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, it certainly didn't disappoint. We also went to two very interesting eco parks, both fairly nearby, Xcaret and Xel ha (lot of Xs in Mayan) plenty to see at both these places as far as wildlife and marine life are concerned. My son, who was with us went snorkeling, the coral reef we were told, is second only to The Great Barrier Reef and the fish are very beautiful. I would absolutely recommend Mexico to anyone, the Mexicans were very hospitable. I don't know when you are thinking of going suzz we went in December, we had very good weather. One of my sons went last October and found it a bit rainy and overcast. I would quite like to go again or possibly somewhere else in Central America such as Costa Rica, have enduring memories of some of the fantastic wildlife such as very large Iguanas that came out midday to bask in the sun and strange little rodent families that scuttled around called patchas, not frightening like rats I hasten to add.

Whatever you decide have a great time.

Sorry forget to mention we stayed in a hotel in the RIU chain which I believe is Spanish chain, prevalent in Spain and Latin America, but there are many other hotels to choose from in Playa Del Carmen and that coast generally, I think most are of a fairly high standard. I'd avoid Cancun where the airport is, I've been told it's very brash.

Went a few years ago and stayed in Debbie Reynolds hotel off main strip
don't think it is there anymore, but you seem to get a better deal if you stay off strip, depends what you want, best thing was helicopter ride over Grand Canyon ,also nice to see a show if you can,
My son stayed at the hotel looks like a pyramid cannot remember name.

Friend went couple years ago said she was a bit disappointed from first time she went but sure you will have great time although 3/4 days is plenty , would try to get to see San Francisco if you can but as you mentioned you are going to Mexico San Diego is lovely , have a lovely time
