Passports

I renewed mine last month even though it still had 'time' on it . I filled in an easy form at our post office , used 'check and send' and received my new one within the same week ! Cost was about £70 I think , but that's me safe for 10 years .

Yes folks decided to renew it. I hate faffing around with forms. Can't do it on line as haven't a printer.

Depends where you go. It's a mandatory 6 months past your last holiday date in some countries.

I just renewed mine and the unexpired bit was added on. I have heard that it will take years to work everything out if we vote to exit the Esso you should be fine.

Definitely renew it whitewave, not worh the risk.
I don't think Brexit would change anything that fast though. I was talking to our Maire at the wekend and discussing what might happen. I said that I didn't think we would actually be lined up on the quai at Le Havre with our suitcases and he said, "the people of this village would never allow that to happen". Which was nice.

I thought you had to have some period of time left on your passport beyond the time you are due back whitewave (I suppose in case you are delayed for some reason).
You can renew up to six months in advance and they add that on to the end.

When you renew a passport you get the unexpired bit added to the length of time it normally runs - eg if you renew a passport in February that was due to run out the following June, the new one runs from February to the June 10 years later. And why would the referendum vote make any immediate difference - or indeed any difference at all if you are a British citizen?

Yes that occurred to me as I was writing this. I think the inner Scrooge has to be suppressed and new passports acquired, although hopefully they won't have the nerve to expect us to buy new British ones if the vote is no.

Different countries have different criteria for how long your passport has to run before the expiry date in order for you to travel there.
I would say renew it asap.

What if you have an accident or are taken ill and your return home is delayed?
