Dungeoness

Must see: Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch railway and, if you can manage it, go up the lighthouse at Dungeness

You make poor Dungeness sound very threatening and creepy kateykrunch
There are lots of hotels, b&b's and holiday rentals around Winchelsea Beach, Camber Sands etc. The George in Rye is our favourite.

We have often stayed at the imperial hotel in hythe, where the miniature railway starts on its way to dungeoness, otherwise rye has a few nice hotels. Lots to see in the area.

I think Dungeness is like Marmite - you either 'love it or hate it' - I fall into the 'hate' it category, but don't let that put you off . It was my late father's favourite place, we scattered his ashes there for that reason.

Rye is, in my humble, absolutely lovely and there are some nice hotels there

About 40 years ago my exDH and I took a children's club on holiday to a school journey centre at St.Mary's Bay. One of his planned day trips was to Dungeness for shopping. When we arrived on the railway all we saw was an expanse of pebbles! We did laugh! No internet in those days, to check out the area! Assuming nothing much has changed, I wouldn't mind living on the sea front there, gardening would be interesting.

Rye and Hythe are both quaint. Dungeness is a bit of a wilderness IMHO.
D now lives in that area.

I would stay in Rye at Jeakes House B and B and eat at Ypres Castle pub and go to Dungeness for a day trip.
Alternatively, stay in Sandwich at the Bell hotel and visit Rye as well.

I would definitely go to Rye because it is lovely - but I am not over keen on Dungeness. It seemed very bleak to me. Maybe if you out and about you could go and see for yourself ..................then come back on here and let us know what you felt about it!!

Thank you for all the comments and ideas on places to stay, the miniature railway sounds fun, the place is somewhere I have never been, but would like to see. I'll let you know when we've been.
