We have done rail/ coach holidays but only in France and Italy. We went with Riviera and Travel Editions and they were very successful and enjoyable, never done one in the uk, my parents used to enjoy them though

tanith, generally the gap between comfort stops is about two hours. Leger Coaches, do Europe and UK, have Silver Service coaches where they have an area at the rear of the coach set around a table where one can go for a change of scene. Probably other companies do too.

We have done more coach trips than I can count. All over America and Europe and for the last few years around Britain. We booked one today to go to Norfolk at Easter. No worries, they take responsibility every step of the way. Maybe some would say they are a bit regimented but for us they are ideal. Give it a go Jordana, even a few days trip would show if a coach trip is for you.

I've often looked into a coach trip as OH won't fly but we both suffer with bad backs and sitting still for hours on end is the stuff of nightmares for us both. Do they stop frequently enough and would we be able to stand and move around a little? Maybe those of you have done one could advise .

PS we are doing a Turkey and Tinsel in the Trossachs at the end of November.

Just down the road from me is a local coach company. They do tours and we've been with them on several holidays. We went to the Malvern's a couple of years ago, and last summer we went with them to Torquay. We've even been abroad with them, but just to The Netherlands. You can opt out of the excursions, but we went on all but one last summer, as we were meeting up with relatives on one of the excursion days. There were plenty of comfort breaks on the journey down to Devon, and the coach has reclining seats. We were really well looked after, and the hotel we were based in was 4 ?.

Would agree, National coach trips are extremely varied, there is something for most people. The hotels are usually very good and the prices are low.

My sister, DD and I have done a few short National holidays (mainly 2 and 3 nights but the do full weeks too). We always had the best fun. Mainly places like Scotland, Yorkshire Dales, Lake District etc. there are so many different ones to choose from and something for most people, whether you like the great outdoors, walking, site seeing, shopping.... whatever.

We don't know whether to try a coach trip this year. We drive to lots of places and stay at hotels etc and we do like the independence of stopping when we feel like it and go off the Beaten track. Now we are getting older and there is so much traffic now, I don't find it as relaxing as I used to so thought a coach trip might be an alternative. Has anyone been on holiday by coach? Only for the UK I might add
