I'm thinking of taking a holiday on the canal, but, and it's a big but: the weather. I'm not too bad with 'not so sunny' conditions but OH hates it.
Is there anyone who knows the weather in this region and can recommend the best time of year.

Like most of Scotland the weather will be warmest in June July and August low to mid 20's usually ,you might get rain especially in July which can be very wet..but at least the rain is warm ...lol.As Billy Connelly says you dont get bad weather just the wrong clothes.Theres so much more to Scotland than the weather ,if we depended on it for tourism we'd be doomed. As it is tourism is booming .You could do the first week in August and then head for the Edinburgh festival, you wont get bored there .

But take some insect repellent at that time of year too

Looks like it will be august then. In June we are bringing a boat back to the uk from the French canals. July sounds as if it's out with the rain sad
I've done the festival several times.
jalima I'm ok with the midges. OH says I'm too bitter for them to want my blood grin

We did a fantastic cruise from Oban through the Caledonian canal and Loch Ness to Inverness in October one year. Absolutely fantastic weather. Clear sunny skies and wonderful views of Ben Nevis and surrounding areas. Really recommended it in Autumn. No midges then.

My neck of the woods!!! Who can tell what the weather is going to be like in advance accurately? I was sitting out in my garden till after six o'clock this evening although the weather forecast said heavy showers later in the day. I walk along the canal most days. Usually May/June is better weather up here than July and August although the end of August/early September can be good. Don't think I would chance October - think you were lucky Jane 10!

We couldn't believe our luck jacq10! Sometimes these golden Octobers are all the better for being so unexpected. We were on the 'Lord of the Glens' and had an all round wonderful experience.
