Hi,

I live in Wiltshire and would like to hear from any other female who would be interested in meeting up with a view to Socialising and maybe planning a holiday to the USA.

I get the impression that you definitely want somebody to go with you if you have a holiday in USA. If that's what you would like, I truly hope it happens for you but I have a suggestion for you.

Have you thought of going with Just You? You would be in a group of single people with a Tour Manager. I admit it's not the cheapest way of going but I wondered if it might be a practical solution for you. I have gone on lots of holidays with Just You and found them very good. Admittedly, I have only gone on European holidays.

I have always met very nice people and often recommend Just You to people.

Good luck!

If you want to get to know locals and not pay for board and lodging, You can go on the website Helpx.

I know that somewhere on the site it has listings for those who want travel companions. Otherwise you can travel around to families and others wanting help who will give you board and lodging in exchange for 4 hrs work a day.

Welcome to Help Exchange (HelpX)
www.helpx.net/
HelpX is an online listing of host organic farms, non-organic farms, farmstays, homestays, ranches, lodges, B&Bs, backpackers hostels and even sailing boats who invite volunteer helpers to stay with them short-term in exchange for food and accommodation.

HelpX is provided primarily as a cultural exchange for working holiday makers who would like the opportunity during their travels abroad, to stay with local people and gain practical experience. In the typical arrangement, the helper works an average of 4 hours per day and receives free accommodation and meals for their efforts.

I have just enjoyed a course on writing about my travel run by Zoe Dawes. She has a blog site with some good tips for solo travelers that may be helpful

For my trips I have the support of a travel counesllor. If I have booked flights etc through him if anything goes wrong he is available on the phone 24 hrs a day to get arrangements sorted.

HelpX is like WWOOFING, or workaway. It is a working holiday. The OP wants to venture on a trip to the USA. She didn't say she wanted to work!
There is another, older site which is cultural exchange called SERVAS. It began after the 2nd world war to encourage friendship between nations but it has taken a while to catch up and use 21st century technology. It does now.
