Southerness Dumfries Sept holiday

If you ever come back for another visit then Gretna Green Famous Blacksmiths Shop makes a brilliant stop-off point or day out with the grandkids! Just off the M6, they're a 5-star tourist attraction with lots of history, food and shopping. Definitely worth a trip once things are back to normal again.

We have our grandsons for weekend, so will have to wait until tomorrow, before we are able to properly check out your reccomendations.
They seem to be just what we are looking for, a little taste of the area.

Unfortunately on this occasion, it is only 5 day trip, but will hopefully return post covid19 and enjoy a longer holiday.

Surely Dumfries House is in Ayrshire?

Dunfries House is a must if it it open you have to book , Princ Charles helped to save it .

J52 has said it all. Kirkcudbright is lovely. The galleries are a joy and there are lovely wee coffee shops etc.
Threave is a nice place to visit. Further along there's Logan Gardens and we always enjoy visiting Portpatrick. Wigton the 'book town' never impressed us much but maybe we were there on a bad day.

Hi, we have a holiday house further around the coast. You don’t say if you know the area at all. Southerness, although on the coast is a bit remote, off the A75. Journey further Along the coast and you come to Kipford a sailing village. From there you can do a lovely coastal walk to Rockcliff and back. Lunch in the pub.

I would suggest a trip to Kirkcudbright, the artist town. The Art Gallery ( part of the Scottish National Gallery) is open, as is it’s cafe. Both should be booked. The Museum is also open and bootable. The historic town has a harbour and a castle, lots of interesting individual shops, galleries and two antique shops.
A road trip along the Raiders Road, just North of New Galloway, stopping at the Otters Pool for a picnic.
Threave Gardens a NT property at Castle Douglas is open, and bootable.
September can often be gentle weather due to the influence of the Gulf Stream.
