Cruising in 2022 and beyond

We've got a French river cruise booked but not till next April and even then we'll see how things are going before we definitely go.
A friend has a round Britain one booked for July and is all set to go.

I remember reading last year one of the problems with the air conditioning on cruise ships is the air is just recycled.

This caused the coronavirus to be passed on throughout the ship.
The ships should be taking in outside air to make it safer.

Are the cruise ships making this alteration or not.

I don't feel confident to cruise again if there haven't been these changes.

How can we if the virus will be around for years to come.

Cruising is such big business I'm certain that cruise ship companies will do their utmost to make their ships as safe as possible in whatever ways they can.

How I long to go on my planned river cruise but, I will go on longing until I'm satisfied that it feels safe for me. I can wait. Sure wish I didn't feel the need to do so.

We love a cruise but I've told DH that I'm only going on another if we have a balcony. We're usually happy with an outside cabin and have only had a balcony as a treat. But if a quarantine situation did arise I would go crazy without some outside space, no matter how small. We've nearly always flown somewhere to pick up a cruise but I'd be looking next at sailing out of UK to avoid airports. We sailed from Newscastle to St Petersburg and that was brilliant. Might consider Eurostar to France and then a river cruise. Just not too happy about crowded airports at the moment but hopefully this might ease by next year.

A friend is going on a round the UK cruise next week- without any stops. Truly can't see the point.

We like cruising but the stay on the cruise ship is part of the journey not the whole holiday.

I suppose it's a compromise from what would be considered ideal. Anything that breaks the mould from this past awful year sounds reasonable to me. Maybe some people enjoy being on board more than shore visits? Wouldn't be my choice. Love that we're all so different..

So many different kinds of cruise ship. We don't like the huge ones with casinos, pubs, children's play areas etc. The line we prefer is much smaller and very tastefully decorated (unlike some of the floating Las Vegas style ones). We actually do quite enjoy sailing along and watching the world pass by while looking forward to the next delicious meal or interesting lecture. Meeting new people is also enjoyable. Obviously, it's better if we land at various points but, on the right ship, shipboard life can be enough.

I’m so looking forward to my river cruise next year. It was supposed to be last year for our 30th wedding anniversary. I would be perfectly happy to go on any cruise if I could find one that fitted in with my annual leave, we’ve both been vaccinated twice. I’ve only done one ocean cruise and loved the sea days, we went on a smaller ship and found plenty to do if we wanted a break from reading, walking or going to the gym. Can’t wait until I can exercise my sea legs again.!

We’ve enjoyed several cruises, but have no plans to go cruising for the foreseeable future. Apart from any other considerations, many countries and ports are closed to us. I can’t see the point of booking a cruise until/unless ports are open to us.

We have a holiday booked for December 2022. Fly to New York for the Christmas experience, and then sail home on Queen Mary 2.
We were meant to do this holiday last December, but cancelled it. DH had a phone call from the company asking if we would like to rebook for next year, with a cabin upgrade. We have, fingers crossed that covid is well under control by then.

Fingers crossed indeed. It's so nice to have something to look forward to.

Our friends love to cruise but have cancelled four they had booked for 2019/2020. They were delighted last week booking a staycation with P &O a cruise around the U.K. Yesterday they received notification that it was being cancelled because of not being able to dock in Scotland. They are devastated I feel for them but they just don't want to holiday here in a cottage somewhere. It's what we are doing and quite happy to do. I can't imagine when cruising will be allowed again.

They are banned from landing in any Scottish port anyway until we are all in level 1 .
