Since the kids have grown up, myself & Hubby always gone abroad 3 times a year, Spain, Italy and France! Anyway we’re seriously considering booking a week in Spain, we’re both double jabbed! If it turned red while out there we can’t quarantine due to running our own business! We did book Majorca with TUI, as it was green, then moved to amber! I think we need to get back to some normality, otherwise there’s going to be NO travel industry left. Going to make a decision after the next review, which us next week. We live in Wales, (but airport in England) so it’s very confusing with all the different rules for travel.
Anyone going away?..

I’m also desperate for a holiday abroad.
British weathers been bad this year. I don’t think the risk of catching Covid abroad is any higher than catching it here. Sadly if you’re vulnerable or worried, probably best to stay at home.
PS my DH was a cop for 30 yrs too and DD is one now but I don’t see how that would qualify me to comment on how many holidays someone takes!
Oh oh Gabriella56 is back again with her sweeping generalisations!?
Like kittylester I don't understand why anyone would be 'desperate' for a holiday at present. It's probably one of those things that we want because it's not possible.
I really want to see my family who I have not been able to visit since 2019. Fortunately they are all ok and no health issues otherwise I would be desperate.
Its NOT the same as flu, i was very very ill xmas 2019-temp 103 was taken to hosp (twice) and treated with both antibiotics AND antivirals, just in case, (in case of 'what' was never disclosed) but now G.P.'s nurse is convinced it was covid (family got it too) and i did indeed feel like i could just die.Took me over a week to get out of bed, then i still weren't better, but both sons were ill by then so I'd no choice.4 weeks before i even ventured out again.I'm still not 100% and i still get breathless, and pains etc.But how can you prove 'long covid' if you 'officially' weren't diagnosed with covid??
Gabrielle. “ Every image shows people standing around in sea/beach/bars/greasy pavement cafés in blazing cancer Inducing sun, or getting blasted in tacky filthy unsafe venues!! Really? Or sitting in a villa garden again boozed up to the gunnels!”
I do none of those things.

She nick named it 'the covid flu' she didnt say it was only the same as fĺu..?
Oh come on.
Dinahmo triggered some memories from my past mentioning Walberswick. I used to go to Southwold every year as a child. Haven't been for a long, long time. Might venture there this year it holds a special place in my heart. Not one for foreign travel but anyone wanting to enjoy yourselves.
Me neither! My DH was a cop for 30 years and REALLY needed a total break away from the junk he had to deal with on a daily basis in Manchester. But it was ONE 2week break! Not 3/4/5 forays abroad! I don't see the utterly obsessive way people bang on about going abroad? Every image shows people standing around in sea/beach/bars/greasy pavement cafés in blazing cancer Inducing sun, or getting blasted in tacky filthy unsafe venues!! Really? Or sitting in a villa garden again boozed up to the gunnels! No wonder the world sees us as a nation of out of controlled boozers, ALL the talk of lock down and restrictions lifting is ALL about "when can we go out/abroad/onhols again-so we can get drunk!!!" Never heard of 'a change is a good as a rest'? Staying home enjoying your surroundings, resting. Seeing family talking and laughing. Winding down.and in some instances doing some flipping housework! We're not the most houseproud nation either.i remember rabbit-sitting for neighbours frequently who were a bit loaded, and noticed how grubby and frankly yukky their home was. I know it's personal taste but I called it what it was. All fur coat and no knickers!? Spend yer dosh on something worthwhile , not the drinks industries share premiums!!!!
Annie1962 - "I'm not actually going to come anywhere near people". Have you invented teleportation or do you have your own private jet? If not, then how are you going to avoid being cooped up on a plane with a few hundred other people for at least a few hours at best?
She nick named it 'the covid flu' she didnt say it was only the same as fĺu..?

We won’t be travelling outside the UK this year but would very much like to do so when the time is right. We have looked forward to our retirement and the opportunity to travel more. We have had 3 breaks in the UK, one last year and 2 this year. Yes there are lovely places to go. It’s not cheap though. When the weather is good all the nice places are so crowded as there are always day trippers as well as those on holiday. When the weather isn’t nice I’d rather be at home. I know some will say that they find very quiet places but that doesn’t appeal to us. We like day trips to country places but don’t want to stay there. It’s important to us to have a break from routine and chores. We don’t feel this is available to us in this country. Of course that is our opinion.
Couldn’t have put it better myself !!
Plus do remember some of us want to fly to see our AC
I think its madness that there's to be NO quarantine into/out of Britain (or indeed anywhere) at a time when Covid is still on increase in its various strains though.?

Exactly where did Annie1962 say its a flu? Not in her OP she didnt?
Here …” My elderly parents tested positive for covid, before a cruise last month, and they were not even ill, and yes they’ve double jabbed, and yes they still here! I’m not living in fear of catching the covid flu, life too short…..”
Typo- *anyway
British holidays are overpriced abyway they always have been- if you go Butlins or similar you can pay up to 15-1600 pounds for a family of up to 4 in peak season- so theoretically you could possibly go abroad for less.
I am desperate for a visit to the UK am an ex, pat and havent been able to visit since October last year, but heyho last night I heard from next week we wont need to quarantine, what a relief, now I can visit my beloved UK and meet friends at last. am not desperate for a holiday, just to be in England again.
Exactly where did Annie1962 say its a flu? Not in her OP she didnt?
we have been away a few times this year, in Scotland and England there are loads of places we haven't been in this country. I don't find it that more expensive than going abroad with the extra costs involved of airport parking covid tests etc. Sounds like OP has had lots of foreign holidays already, so have we over the years, so we can enjoy what we have on our doorstep (we live by the beaches in Poole)
Two lots of people we know had problems in Devon and Cornwall with restaurants/pubs being closed due to staff shortages. Both sets said they ended up buying sandwiches from supermarkets and eating them in their hotel rooms.
Supposed to be taking 2 of my grand kids on friday- monday caravan break in august- just me & them going- but its on a holiday site so I'm really nervous! (I am double jabbed) but of course kids can't have one yet- so ill constantly be nagging them to wash & gel.& ill wear a mask i think. And make them wear one if were not outdoors.(near other people) I couldn't forgive myself if they caught covid under my care, so I'm not taking chances.
Although the risks of being stuck in quarantine far away from home are a valid fear, surely if you disapprove of travel overseas due to irresponsibility and risk of spreading covid19, this still applies to a UK holiday? If I decided, which I won't, to take a trip to overcrowded Cornwall along with thousands of others, I am just as likely to be infected?
I have an idea the locals abroad might be less than pleased to see us, coming from the UK, other than those whose livelihood depends on tourism. And delays for testing at airports apart, am thinking holidays abroad are not going to be the carefree experiences we had previously, with attractions closed, and maybe local precautions less than UK, so would spend the holiday just worrying. So no holidays abroad for the time being. We have a provisional advance booking for the postponed Oberammergau Passion Play next year, still don’t know whether to take it up. But UK holidays are very hard to book, at least in scenic areas. We live in Pembrokeshire and beaches, car parks, are much, much busier than usual, even in late July
