Desperate for a holiday

Because we’re all different, each one of us, I love to go on holiday, my choice, my right. If your happy at home, stay at home, I know the risk, if there is any, we all simply cannot carry on like this, restrictions are being lifted slowly. Life is moving back to normal, and that means people choosing to travel.

Totally agree with you on that.

I am missing going on holiday so much but I value my health more so it's another staycation this year. There are lovely places to go in the UK but it does cost a lot and it's not the same.

I returned to the UK from working abroad a month ago. There was a 4 hour queue at the airport and absolutely nothing social distancing possible.

You couldn't pay me to go away on holiday at the moment, much as I'd love to go to visit friends.

I don’t understand people who are desperate for a holiday, and indeed must have several foreign holidays a year. When doing a very stressful job I was often desperate for a break but frankly staying at home with the phone and WiFi off would have fitted the bill for that. Now that I’m retired every day is, by comparison, a wonderful holiday. As for going abroad at present, I think it’s sheer lunacy (even with both vaccinations we can catch and spread Covid and OP is potentially putting her business and therefore financial security at risk too by the sound of things). I’d rather keep safe than put my health and that of others at risk for the sake of a few days in the sun and certainly not to keep the travel industry afloat (a lame excuse if ever there was one). I most definitely wouldn’t risk my financial security for it either. There are wonderful places to visit in the UK so why can’t OP do that?

Not the same as “desperate for a holiday” though is it?
For the last few years of DH’s life I was “desperate for a break” and I dare say he was too! But a holiday, even in this country would never been beyond him.
But if you can afford it -along with the extra expense of PCR tests, quarantine if necessary and if travel insurance permits- why not.
Your money, your choice.

I should be crazy with desperation if that were the case.

I'm going away tomorrow for two days - that's the first "holiday" I've had for years.

Nor I. My son and family are going to Greece tomorrow. I am not happy about this. I’m sure they have good insurance and everything, but why take the risk?

Yes good idea, no way are we paying then inflated UK prices!

We too are missing our planned holidays; both just retired, no longer with elderly parents to care for, but may leave it for a while. I am not too bothered about having to quarantine back here to be honest, but would be worried about trying to find somewhere to stay in Spain for example if one of us tested positive pre -flight home. I won't be holidaying in the UK though due to crowds and prices, but will just use my back garden and support local pubs and restaurants who need our custom.

My daughter and family just returned from Majorca and they never had any problems at airport etc! I see friends going on holiday abroad. The uk holidays are more expensive! Last year was the same, but thinking about it, it’s actually worst this year! I feel sorry for people’s jobs, the tourist industry. Yes a few catch the dreaded covid, but life is risk, I think I’m more at risk of dying of alcoholism since March 2020! ?
Anyway We’ll decide after Boris’s review!

Why not try Cornwall, or Scotland, the Lake District, or Suffolk?

What’s wrong with a holiday in the UK. Friend just been to Cornwall, there’s Wales and Scotland, a friend went there. A change of scenery, even if it’s raining, is better than getting stuck overseas, and finding yourself thousands of pounds out of pocket in the process.

We're going nowhere for the foreseeable future, especially not abroad. Six hour queues at airports. No thanks.

I know a woman who has gone to Spain on holiday and caught covid there. She is now stuck, in Spain, unable to return to the UK until she tests negative. She is having to keep paying the hotel and the costs of the tests and has run out of money.

Personally, I think all but essential travel is a huge risk and wouldn't do it.

What are you going to do if you catch covid abroad OR if quarantine comes back in while you're away?
