Singe supplements

I see that I have titled this thread "singe" supplements. I did feel a bit singed, but I meant single!

What??? This is why I haven’t been on holiday for 2 years. My usual travelling companions are going back home for family weddings etc. I wish I lived near you Luckygirl. I would have gladly joined you. You definitely need cheering up. Have you tried Saga? I heard they’re good, though slightly more expensive. I hope you find something ?

Some companies specialise in tours for singles and presumably don’t up the prices. Look at Riviera

I can see how annoying this is as a single - but I suppose it's a financial decision based on how much money they can make from a cabin. If there's lots of singles and no premium then the profits are considerably less.

It's a bit miserable though for single people, that's for sure.

I understand the financial logistics for the firm and accept that in general this is how it has to be .... but £1490 for 4 nights! That is off the wall.

I never minded paying a bit extra for my double room. I could see that having two people in it would have been more profitable.

I did use to object to paying extra for a single room though. It wasn’t like they could fit two people in it!

But that price for four days. ?

Do you think, Lucky, that these are their “regular” prices? Or are they bumped up because of demand?

I received a brochure from a company I had used before and was horrified at the hike in single supplements. I don't think I shall be using them again .

Surely its discrimination against singles. I would be up for holidays abroad if I had a travelling companion. But why should we, clearly its frowned on to be single. Travel companies are missing out on coach loads of singles

Cruises on the Nile normally have single cabins, usually underneath the waterline unfortunately but if you use your cabin just for sleeping it would be fine.
I can’t help wondering why anyone would want to go on a cruise in the middle of a pandemic when even before covid cruises were Petri dishes for other infections.

Is being single and female still a problem theses days?

I remember reading years ago in a newspaper that a lady travelling alone and staying in a hotel in Paris went into the dining room for breakfast and was ignored by waiters even when she tried to attract their attention.

In the end she got fed up, opened her handbag, took out a pair of, er, undergarments, and put them on her head in the manner of a hat.

The room went silent.

The head waiter approached and asked if could help her.

"Yes, can I have some breakfast please?" she said and she quietly put the clothing item back in her handbag as the head waiter snapped his fingers to call a waiter to serve the lady some breakfast.

Being female isn’t the problem. Having to pay for a double room when there is only one person certainly is.
