Has anyone had a holiday in Dubai? It’s not the sort of place I’d think of for a holiday ( knew someone that stayed there years ago and just went on about how posh the hotel was etc). But I know someone that is thinking of taking the family there as we’d read that you can spend a night in the desert, ride camels and fly birds of prey etc.

Maybee was asking in 2023 Humbertbear. I’m sure she’ll be there and back by now!

So where would anyone suggest going to in February for a week that’s not too far but not too close either that would include activities for teenagers and is safe. It’s such a turbulent world at the moment and even places like Finland are rather close to Russia. Iceland is wonderful but they’ve done that.

Try Tunisian. We went years ago and did a two day trip into the dessert. Saw caves where Star Wars was filmed and the colisuem used in Gladiator. Rode camels.

Thanks Calendargirl

I know capitals appear as shouting, but it is just for emphasis.

Ooops, I rarely look at the dates on posts! Sorry!

Cossy Mon 21-Jul-25 09:41:08

I’d never ever go to Dubai, it appears to be populated by wealthy “wannabees” and reality stars and apparently the vast differences between rich and poor outside of the 6 star hotel zones is horrifying.

Not keen on their stances towards women or gay people.

Not my cuppa tea at all I’m afraid.

I think the ‘yelling’ was because so often people keep posting even after it’s been pointed out that it’s a spam thread.

GG just wanted to emphasise that, I imagine,

Ok, I’m sorry. I didn’t realise. In my defence I am new here. I will check dates in future. But did you have to yell?

Leaving aside the vitriol on this thread, Dubai has plenty to amuse teenagers. If not, how about a beginners’
safari in Kenya? A few nights in a tent surrounded by wildlife leaves a pretty indelible memory. A couple of days on one of the Mombasa beach resorts would round it off. Mombasa is multicultural and fascinating and gives a clear insight into the level of poverty. All educational.
Now waiting for all the negatives about Kenya.

Dubai is actually a fantastic holiday destination with a lot more to offer than just luxury hotels. The desert experiences, like spending a night under the stars, riding camels, and flying birds of prey, are truly unforgettable. Plus, the city is constantly evolving, with new real estate developments here dubai-new-developments.com/ that are making it even more appealing for families looking for a mix of adventure and comfort.

Personally I wouldn’t go to Dubai for all the tea in China
I lived in the far east many years ago and been to Singapore which was a lovely place it seems it has changed beyond belief more like Legolsnd in places
The pictures and articles I ve seen about Dubai looks like everything I d really dislike

Dfeliwrt what do I suggest? I suggest you seek out a proper place to ask advice, not a chat forum

Hello all, I'm currently on a quest to understand the intricacies of forming a company in Dubai and would love to hear from those who have successfully navigated the process. Actually, I want to setup my day care business in Dubai. What were the key steps you took, and were there any challenges you encountered? Any insights into the legal and procedural aspects would be immensely helpful. Also, if anyone has recommendations for reliable resources or agencies that assist in the process, please share!

One of my friend who's already in Dubai as an makeup artist has suggested me to go with Business Advisory UAE first and then move to other processes. What you guys suggest?

I’ve seen dogs tied up outside homes on Greek islands; they obviously spend their lives there. Feral cats everywhere, too on many holidays I’ve had in Greece and Italy. There’s bull fighting still in Spain. But it does remind me to give a donation that attempt to educate people in better ways to treat their animals. As for the way they import animals to China to use in medicine eg Pangolins. I agree that it’s very upsetting.

I've never been to Dubai but I have been to some middle-Eastern countries. I wonder if anyone else is affected by how domestic animals are treated in the countries they visit. Maybe I'm too thin-skinned but a holiday where I was aware of animals being abused or subjected to cruelty, or neglect, would most likely ruin that holiday for me.

I'd like to revisit Singapore but someone we met there said she thought it was too sanitised, she preferred Vietnam and Cambodia.

I found Singapore impossibly hot and humid after Australia. The most interesting part of that visit was a trip to Malacca in Malaysia, although I remember seeing posters with a hangman's noose, pretty horrible, advising drugs carried a mandatory death sentence, which gave me instant paranoia insomuch as I kept checking bags just in case anything had been plantedshock I wouldn't rush back there.

We had friends who worked in Singapore for years that kept asking us to visit but the distance and humidity put me off. It would have been a very expensive holiday and there was no culture to speak of.

I stayed in Dubai 5 years ago before boarding the last leg of a world cruise back to U.K.
I'm glad I only stayed 1 night, it is a souless place, and as a party of 2 older women (my cousin and I) it did not seem a very welcoming place for females whatever their age.
Part of the cruise visited Jordan and we travelled to Petra (on my bucket list) and I would recommend a visit to that unique place.

My husband has worked all over the world...and we have also travelled extensively and I can honestly say that Dubai is a safe place to walk out at night time..and also our teenage grandchildren in the UK have all visited Dubai and had an excellent time...

Yes that! but also, and it was a long time ago, everything, cars, coaches, hotel rooms were over air conditioned so when we weren't outside in sauna like conditions we were freezing cold inside somewhere. I remember on my return to England I had the mother and father of a cold.

Callistemon21 Sat 07-Jan-23 14:16:10

It was like walking out into a sauna when we left the hotel!

I was only thinking yesterday that my son is taking his family to London at half term and I feel less worried at the thought of my daughters family being in Dubai ( I always worry when they’re away somewhere).
