From Lonely Planet today - Ibiza and Mallorca

So not 'just' Lanzarote.

Covered in snow, Mallorca that is, last time I read anything about it, not what one expects from the Balearics, especially when arriving straight from the plane ready for the beach if you happen to be that way inclined and haven't up dated on the local weather.

Mallorca and Minorca do have mountains, and winters. The Canaries are a different story, weather wise. And North of Tenerife is very different to desertic South.

But what is the relevance to the subject of this thread? Please.

Maybe the relevance is to suggest that the hoi polloi shouldn’t ruin such lovely places but holiday in Blackpool. Who knows?

To my mind there’s only one way to control what type of holidaymaker comes to you country and that’s to ensure all hotels are 4* plus, appropriately priced and don’t offer all inclusive deals. They’re looking at the whole place by blaming the customer enabled by a cheap price.

Lonely Planet is a very respected travel guide. And? Following another thread about one Island on the Med making the decision to change tack on the type of tourism they want to attract. As this popped up on my feed, I thought it was interesting to see that Lanzarote is not the only Island making the decision to redefine their tourist policy.

In the light of the lengthy chat about this very subject very recently, I thought it was quite clear.

Native Mallorquínes are fairly hostile towards Brits. But the high level of tourism has been encouraged on Mallorca so the tourists are hardly to blame.

The Balearics, Canaries and many parts of Spain and Portugal rely heavily on the Tourist €

I wonder if the powers that be have a Plan B if and when they successfully reduce the tourist footfall?

Is this a quality not quantity thing? Will they be raising the price of a hotel stay to the very average £150 a night?

Why don't the Majorcans like Brits? Is that the Brits who live there too or just the rowdy tourists? I must admit I've never been to the Balearics nor Spain.

This is the truth from people on the ground who really know what was said.
