Why not get some travel brochures and see what takes your fancy?

City breaks are normally quite interesting, Barcelona, Prague or Gibraltar, or if you feel like being a bit more Adventist try Turkey in late September or October, parts of Turkey have the most amazing historical sites and fabulous geography.

Why not look at a holiday let or hotel in North Yorkshire, we are there now and have friends coming from Ireland to join us for a few days.

We are spoilt for choice as to where to go and what to do.
After collecting our guests from the airport we are going to Harrogate for a breakfast at Betty’s and a wander around the town, we will then drive to our place in Ripon via Ripley, in the afternoon we will walk around Ripon visiting the Cathedral.
York for the day on Sunday to visit the Minster, walk the City walls and see some Roman ruins, back to Ripon and walk into town to watch the Hornblower at 9pm (this is one of the longest ongoing traditions in the world a nightly ritual since 886AD)
On Monday we will walk around Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal then a whistle stop tour of Wensleydale in the afternoon.

We could also visit Newby Hall, The Himalayan Gardens, Aldborough Roman town, Castle Bolton, Richard 111 castle at Middleham and so it goes on!

We have had our place here for 3 years and we are never short of something to do, the holidaymakers who write in our guest book have found places we had never even heard of.

I can’t guarantee no rain but you shouldn’t be sweltering in the heat!

Santorini is fabulous. My favourite place is Venice.

What about a city break...choose somewhere small ....I love valencia...very flat ...good public transport if you need it...beach, old city, new city ...too hot in summer but other seasons would be fine

Go and see the Northern Lights up in Scandinavia ? You are lucky living near Europe, it is so close for you.

LOUISA1523 Fri 03-May-24 11:38:24

When do you want to travel?

sadmum7 Fri 03-May-24 11:33:37

Hi,

Couple later 68 and 72, only had 2 holidays abroad, just back from 10 days in Italy .

Would like to travel again but not sure where, not interested in sitting around a beach, more historical and religious .

Considering anything from long weekend to 10 days but flexible.

Have some mobility issues but can get around.

Do not like the heat and would need to avoid school holidays.

Accessible to any of the London Airports. Mid range budget

Would welcome any suggestions - thank you
