I'm sure there must be some of you out there who have recently been to Norway on a cruise. We will only need money for occasional drinks/snacks out, as nearly everything has been paid for in advance. We'll get some Norwegian Krone to take with us, but have heard that credit cards are acceptable nearly everywhere in Norway, so we're thinking of just loading up a Travel Money card. Any advice on the best way of tackling this - we don't want to end up with Krone that we probably won't need again.

I was on a cruise in March to Norway then Sweden. I took no cash and used a credit card for the odd drink, snack when we visited Oslo and Gothenburg. It was a no exchange fee travel card I have with my bank. On board the ship anything not included in the price of the cruise was billed for before disembarkation. I had a little stirling with me, but never used it

Credit cards can be used in every part of Norway in my experience, particularly in places where cruise ships dock.

We paid for a coffee in Stavanger in Euros.

Loading up a Travel Money card like Travelex is a great idea, but do NOT use it if you bank with TSB. TSB are blocking all transactions - something to do with bitcoin and cryptobanking - but other banks are OK. I only just found this out two days before I went abroad. Grrrr!

We took some Norwegian Krone for tips whilst ashore and purchasing small items other than that we used a currency card.

We went to Lanzarote recently and several shops had signs up saying that they don’t accept Travel Money cards, just cash and normal Credit Cards.
Not sure why or if it’s just a ‘Spanish’ thing. Maybe its linked to the Bitcoin problem?
