Last minute hotel break in Scotland

Any suggestions/recommendations for a base to stay for 3/4 nights somewhere north of Glasgow please - it will be my birthday! Happy to drive 1.5/2 hours from the airport. Not too remote and with interesting places to visit by car nearby if possible. DH recovering from knee surgery so he can't walk too far . But maybe a boat trip on a loch would be good?! Any ideas gratefully received. Thank you!

Loch Lomond just 20 miles from Glasgow and very central for touring.Great for Stirling Castle,The Wallace monument,the Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel.Or head up the west side of the loch and visit Inveraray Castle and onto Oban.theres loads to see boat trips on Loch Lomond and Loch Katrina in the Trossachs This is my home territory stunning scenery and friendly people abound.

paddyann54 thank you, some excellent ideas there! I love the idea of exploring the Inverary and Oban area and a boat trip too. We'd love to revisit the Kelpies, Falkirk Wheel etc too - and yes, we always find the people so friendly, maybe because you live in such a beautiful country.
