I would love to travel, but never done it on my own before. Do you think a cruise would be easiest for the first time?

After my Mum died, Dad went on a cruise by himself.
He went with Saga, they pick you up from home and help you all the way 🙂

Yes.Saga cruises look after single travellers very well. They will pick you up from home and take you to the port.I find this a great start to the holiday. There are forums on FB dedicated to Saga for further information.Whatever you decide to do I wish you a wonderful holiday.

Have a look at Passion for Cruises. Great company for solo cruises and also have a holiday company. Been cruising 4 times with them. No problems, good prices and met loads of other solos. I expect a cheaper price than Saga.

I’ve been on a few singles holidays traveling with”Explore” very much “adventure” themed, not many single men, mostly single women often traveling with a friend or couples, age range mid 20s to 75 plus. Two trips I shared with my sister!.

My lovely, unmarried, much older sister, travelled the world on her own. I was in awe of her. She travelled with one case. I remember her saying, she ‘washed and wore’ her underwear.
…6 Panties and 3 bras. A couple of trousers, tops, one cardigan, one shawl. I was in awe of her. A brave adventurous woman. Saved enough for this trip, but certainly no luxury hotels. No mobile phones either. A very brave lady !!I think she was in her 50s then

I have a friend, now 80, who never married, had a very successful career and has spent her retirement travelling the world on her own. No matter how remote she has now been there. She goes on lots of Fair Trade trips travelling up into the Andes, remote parts of south east Asia to meet ethnic producers whose goods are sold through ethical shops and traders in the UK.

She has made a lot of friends. However, I do not think she has ever been on a traditional cruise, only ones taking her to remote places only accessible on a relativley small ship.

You can also go on special interst holidays in the UK. My mother used to go on crafting holidays. There are also holidays for every kind of interest from walking to visiting old churches.

Personally, on my own, I would always choose a special interest holiday.

Thank you for all your help. I got the SAGA brochure and will look at the Passion for cruises. I still drive and have visited cities in UK on my own. Never travelled abroad, but ready to have a go.

DS has a friend whose Grandma went on cruises and escorted holidays after she was widowed; her late husband had said he wanted her to go on holidays and enjoy herself after he died, so she did.
She visited some quite exotic places.

Since my DH died 6 years ago I have been on a cruise or holiday every year, (except for Covid, of course). I have always loved travelling and decided not to let the fact of being on my own stop me.

I go with Saga and they are brilliant, from pick up at home to being dropped off again at the end of the holiday. The ships are beautiful, cabins lovely (all with balconies), and the crew second to none. Singles are well catered for and you need never be lonely.

I also went on a touring holiday to South Africa, again with Saga, and absolutely loved it. Everything was so well organised and the other travellers so friendly. I also did a Danube river cruise, Saga again!

Don't be afraid to take the plunge!

We have been on a few European tours with Newmarket and there always have been quite a few single travellers. We had a fabulous trip to Italy with some lovely middle aged singles from Australia and New Zealand.
