Hiring a car in UK or EU over the age of 80? Any experience?

Alamo doesn't have an upper age limit in USA or Canada so probably you will find others don't.

You do need to contact the car rental company in advance to confirm policy, age often increases premium but some companies don’t charge any extra.

I don't foresee any issue with an 80 year old renting g a car in the states. A lot of people I know use turo.com

LOL, yes. Only difference DH is fully compos mentis and an excellent driver still.

Perhaps it depends on which State.

I suppose if they say you're too old to drive at 80 you could point out they have a President who is 81.

We have not hired a car for a long time, as we usually travel to Europe only, car and train. Or to Cities in EU flight + train travel.

Sorry - apparently you can, (someone gave me wrong information) and in Europe but the insurance costs may be higher.

If you're going to Australia, no I don't think you can over age 80.

There isn’t a legal upper age limit in the U.K. it does however vary from hire company to hire company and often an extra insurance liability payment is charged.
