Overselling seats

Unfortunate dd currently awaiting after booking in to be told her flight has over sold by 10 and tonight’s flight may not be for!
Has this happened to anyone else here, I know it’s more common these days but I’ve no experience with it thankfully.
I’ve suggested as she’s a single traveler she may be lucky but what a palaver.

The will have to put her in a hotel and fly her out tomorrow and should give her some airmiles or financial compensation. They usually ask for volunteers - people who don’t mind waiting another day in return for some compensation.

Okay so it’s work related travel and premium economy, luckily she has been given an economy seat.
A huge relief as a busy workload awaits.
With luck as she is hugely polite and understanding……..they may upgrade her to business if they are available and not sold to others. We are waiting for next instalment but she is now airside at least.

A lot of airlines oversell seats, is a gamble they take in order to make more money on the understanding that some travelers are always a no-show. Is bad practice as your daughter found out. We have seen it happen but it hasn't luckily happened to us...yet.

Yes, but it was years ago coming home from Cyprus.

They were asking for volunteers to wait for the next flight. None of our group volunteered but some people must have done because the flight left, albeit later than it should have done.

It happened to me a few years ago, I was upgraded to business class on the same flight.

Yes, we typically take compensation & room, extend holiday.
