Anybody ever visited here? Have always wanted to go and are planning a trip for our Wedding Anniversary but would like some feedback.

Yes really nice, spent a nice sunny Autumn day there when we were last in that part of Wales. It's worth a visit. It reminded me of The Epcot Centre in Florida, went there many years ago. They recreate various countries around the world. Portmerion's Italianate experience was reminiscent of that. It did feel a bit surreal.

I absolutely loved it. DH was a fan of The Prisoner and we bought it as a birthday gift for him.
When the concierge saw us parking in a disabled space, he insisted in taking me in a buggy to check in.

The food was fabulous, I have never tasted lamb like it.

We stayed a number of years ago, it was a surreal experience. The hotel was lovely though, our room was in a cottage in the grounds. The food was excellent.
We did think the “village” could have been spruced up a bit and needed a lick of paint. But walking in the grounds at dusk when most day visitors had left was lovely.

We visited for the day when we were in Wales. It was very interesting and I enjoyed it. As some say, though, it’s quite steep in places and there are quite a lot of steps. Not sure I would want to base myself there for a holiday though - the day visit was enough for me.
Would I visit again? Yes, probably.

I found it a bit strange. And there was a bug in my salad at the cafe. hmm

Definately worth a visit especially if you remember 'THE PRISONER'.
It is a unique place, interesting shops and lovely walk by the seashore.

I think they are real buildings which would have been knocked down and were rescued and brought to Portmerion - this is from memory long ago and others may correct me. But I do not think they are 'fake ' buildings, just buildings which have been moved and re-built. I went decades ago and liked it.

Went to it as part of a coach tour , OH moaned the whole time , so parked him with a coffee and looked round , bought lovely dinner plates at a good discount
Next time was another coach tour , I was solo , so explored at leisure, it was shabby , but I thought that was part of its charm , not sure if I would like to stay in the village , it was so busy !

When I went there a few years ago with my late husband, we both adored it. It’s another world. We sat for hours at the bottom end by the water and just relaxed. It had a magical feeling about it when we went. . However, we went out of season when it was quite quiet. I dread to think what it would be like in school holiday times - I doubt you’d be able to move!
North Wales is fabulous. So much to see and do.

We have been there many times. Quirky place and always something new to see.

Portmerion is quite local to us and as said by others is quite expensive. I think the current price is £20 There is a slight reduction for pensioners Which I have not paid !

We had a voucher that was free admission which was valid mid December till mid January. Went on a lovely walk on the coast and woodlands it was really delightful and I imagine when the azaleas would be lovely when in flower
There is a deal on that if you have lunch at Castell Deudreathwhich works out at three course lunch at about £30 per head then there I’d free admission afterwards
I have not eaten there but it has a really good reputation
If you have a blue badge there is parking close to the entrance
In early December there is a very good food and craft fair Admission is cheaper and includes access to everything else
If you do make it I hope you enjoy
Found a gift voucher which verifies cost of lunch and free entrance

I have been many times as a day visitor and twice to stay.I love it there, the evenings in the village when all the day trippers have gone are magical.

Have eaten at both hotels, transport was provided to take us up to Castell Deudraeth, both times we stayed in village rooms.

Used to live close to Portmeirion. Pretty but definitely avoid in the summer and at Bank hols and summer weekends. Queues can be horrendous. There us a shop selling portmeirion ware, all made in Staffordshire.

I went there years ago because I was a fan of The Prisoner. All I remember was that it rained a lot. I mean a lot.

Cateq Wed 05-Feb-25 21:10:48

We took the kids there many years ago. It was a pretty little place.

BlueSapphire Wed 05-Feb-25 21:38:45

It's beautiful; we had a lovely day there about three years ago, plenty to look at and stunning views. We were lucky with the weather, it was a glorious warm and sunny July day.

I went there in 1967 for my pre wedding honeymoon, as we could only get someone to look after my MIL in that week. We loved it and rented a small cottage which had just one room with a bathroom 2 steps up but in the same room and open without any screens, walls or anything. We thought it was wonderful and had a fabulous time. I would love to go back but probably never will now. Have a fabulous time.

Greenfinch Wed 05-Feb-25 22:04:30

I really didn’t enjoy my visit there. It seemed so unreal and lacking in life and vibrancy . Totally unnatural.

Redrobin51 Wed 05-Feb-25 22:12:42

Quite a unique place in an absolutely beautiful setting. Enjoy.

Jess20 Wed 05-Feb-25 23:29:34

We've been there. It was lovely!

Went last May and had Sunday lunch in the castle on the estate with my husband and adult granddaughters. With Sunday lunch came free afternoon tickets for entry to Portmeirion village. I think it was about £14 per ticket so a big saving. Very good lunch as well. I think the castle is Castle Drueaith or something like that. Hubble made it down but had to be pushed back up!
