I’ve never been to that part of Portugal and I’m wondering if at that time of year everything is shut down. If anyone has lived there in November or December I would love to know if the restaurants for the locals remain open or does everything shut up shop.

I've been on holiday to near the Faro area (Castro Marim) in early November and although it is quieter there are still quite a few restaurants, bars and tourist type shops for ceramics etc still open. (Not denigrating those shops at all, the ceramics are really good)
One year we even had a boat tour to a nearby island, so that was still operating.
We have a friendwho has a house there and she always goes in Spring and Autumn as it's too hot in the summer.

Thank you that was helpful. DH just wants to get away anywhere!

Off to the Algarve end of Jan next year- really looking forward to discover it out of season and travel the whole coast.
