Do you have (or know of) a comfortable folding type "garden: chair that is stable on sand and quite "high" please?
I used to love the low ones but with a bad hip I'm sure I'd struggle.

It needs to be pretty lightweight as it will be lugged about.

Ideas (makes) please.. 🙏

Thank you.
Some good suggestions here.
I shall get onto this now.
I have spent too long browsing!

Meant to say, they easily fold up.

Tesco have some very stable cane & metal chairs reduced from £20 to £11. Very good value, easy to carry & very stable.

You may have heard 'You don't get owt for nowt' - these - pricy and good. www.lafuma-furniture.co.uk/camping-armchair-alu-cham-batyline-iso-ocean-2-uk.html?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21775522729&gbraid=0AAAAADOrVSjSntyG-myeRbNxBGhMft9cy&gclid=CjwKCAjw1dLDBhBoEiwAQNRiQfQuLB4lzz7nSD-vZEUPHLOH7hwhW_q_T3cj9mH40pr9S6ONwJzALhoCKSoQAvD_BwE

Directors chairs - fabulous, but in a garden. Bit heavy to take to beach.
Folding chairs - perfect for the beach. Lightweight, with arms and tubular frames - not 4 thin legs. Any chairs with 4 straight legs, plonk them down on sand, and risk that the whole chair is then a bit Brahms & Liszt and the occupant more so, or upended onto the beach!!

Also, if you are already unstable (like me) then falling over is more likely anyway. shock

Especially after a glass of vino 🤭

Melbuckton Mon 14-Jul-25 14:22:40

I did but it collapsed under me yesterday.

Good point V3ra about the feet!
Was just thinking that (our) lawn was less flat than the carpet!

V3ra Mon 14-Jul-25 11:18:23

My son says just order several and test them on the lawn.

I ordered several beach chairs from Amazon, but we tried them indoors so we didn't get the feet dirty as I knew some would be going back.
I wanted a high back and a low seat, which I found and am happy with, but it wouldn't be what you're looking for 😐

NotSpaghetti Mon 14-Jul-25 10:22:02

They look great ixion bit at 5kg are twice the weight... I know it probably won't be me carrying them but am a bit mindful of the trek to the beach.

I like them though. They look very smart!

ixion Mon 14-Jul-25 09:59:40

This.

These look pretty respectable, NS.
www.habitat.co.uk/product/8960128

Wooden, not tubular, so heavier but probably more solid.
I see they have chunkier 'feet' on the back which is a new thing to me.

They are Habitat, from Argos, so if you had one within a nearby Sainsbury's - and someone to do the leg work for you, you could have them possibly the same or the next day - and returns are no problem at all.

Sorry photo won't post (yet)

Thank you Jaxjacky
I will take another look... I am nowhere near as tall as you so should be fine.
Thank you.

Jaxjacky - did you just find these for me or do you have one?

I had discounted them because they seat is apparently only 14" high. They might otherwise be OK though (or the sizing on Amazon is suspect).

If you do have them are they a bit low?

We do have them and I find them fine to use and I'm 5’ 11”, use the arms to get up if necessary

Thanks Oreo will look at directors chairs.

Don't tell Oreo but I'm not keen on ours. They are unstable unless on flat ground and the bar digs into the back of my thighs unless I use a cushion.

Too late! 😄
We have two folded up somewhere and have used them on the beach before now without mishap, but guess it depends on how firm the sand is.Any lightweight chair can flip if not careful.
Deck chairs ideal obvs but very heavy.Ours are only cheap ones from somewhere like B&Q but there will be more expensive and better ones am guessing.

NotSpaghetti Mon 14-Jul-25 07:13:26

I did find an American company making taller ones.
I might have to re-find those...

Allira Sun 13-Jul-25 23:04:26

I think the ones Jaxjacky linked to are better.

Do you have a comfortable alternative Allira ?

Not yet, unfortunately.

I'm still trying to source a garden chair/lounger, not low, which doesn't tilt back completely when the footrest is engaged.
Some of us like to read with our feet up!

I think we should start production.

Allira Sun 13-Jul-25 23:01:09

Didn't think anyone was watching ...
It was a he ixion - which, of course, you might be, who knows who any of us are on GN! .
I'm sure you're not him, though.

Speaking from bitter experience, directors' chairs may not particularly stable on uneven ground.

No, they're not, I've seen someone go backwards when he sat in one!

🤦‍♀️You were there, Allira.
Didn't think anyone was watching ...

The trouble is, they are so lightweight, it is easy - and tempting- to move them around just by standing up and lifting them to reposition then plonking back down without testing the terrain first..

Do you have a comfortable alternative Allira ?

NotSpaghetti Sun 13-Jul-25 21:57:25

The dual lock kijaro looks like one my daughter offered.
Does it truly stay stable on sand?

I would normally have made a trip to a camping shop Grammaretto but unfortunately I'm not feeling able to do this as yet as it will take a big chunk out of a day because I've moved in (for now) with my mother-in-law.... and if I can escape for z couple of hours I'd swim or water my garden...
Thanks for the info re director's chairs, Ixion.

My son says judt order several and test them on the lawn.

Thank you everyone who has helped so far.

I shall share this with Mr.I.

He is yet to be convinced of these benefits.
