What are some locations/countries/places people would recommend visiting? I have some time on my hands and I have never really travelled much before. Does anyone have any good travelling experiences or recommendations? Anywhere the grandchildren would enjoy if I went on weekends or holidays?

We stayed in this lovely lakeside lodge in Devon, lots of good walking opportunities and great sights too! Affordable aswell

Wales walking around the Brecon Beacon area. We had a lovely time there and were amazed by the National showcaves and dinosaurs. Perfect for adults and children.

East coast of Yorkshire, particularly Filey is great for kids.

How old are the grandchildren?
Are you looking for short holidays?
I'd love to take mine to Rome to see the Collosseum which I know they would love.

I'd stay somewhere with a pool, outside if the city and travel in for a day.

We stayed in Aiguablava once in a family apartment with a pool but there's a very nice Parador there that's quite family focused. It's got a lovely outdoor pool and good restaurant.
We went to see the Dali exhibition, Begur Castle and had a few days trip to the Pyrenees where we saw eagles!

Aiguablava beach is shallow waters and golden sand. Beautiful.

For several years we went up to Vindolanda. A fabulous roman settlement in Northumberland.

Still lots of work going on there.
Fabulous.
