Battle with British Airways (BA) over flight delay

We flew back from Montreal (Trudeau airport) to London Heathrow and the flight from Montreal was delayed leaving. We were not offered any alternative flights or any accommodation to stay overnight and catch a later flight.

We landed over 3 hours later than the original flight would have landed so I submitted a claim form for compensation.

The BA website says that if the distance between the two airports is over a certain amount the compensation due per person is £520. The distance shown on a third party website was in the bracket for receiving £520, but all BA has paid me is their lowest rate of £260.

Has this happened to anyone else? If so, how did they challenge BA and were they successful, please?

Gosh 3 hours feels nothing I had an overnight stay on the floor at Stansted once when Ryanair failed to take off I ve also had to be coached from another airport a two or three hour extra trip when the plane was forced to land at an alternative
Never had any compensation as they had a variety of excuses Beyond their control/ acts of nature etc etc that was some years back though maybe changed now
Good luck with this one

We were delayed for six hours a couple of years ago with BA. We were given a £10 voucher for food and drink and that was it.

I recall reading somewhere that it depends on the cause of the delay. If it was the airline’s fault, then comp is due but if it was an act of god, say bad weather, then it’s tough luck and you won’t receive anything.

I shudder to think how many hours - days even - we’ve spent delayed at airports over the years but have never received anything bar that £10 voucher.

I fly with BA and received a prompt apology, appropiate compensation, meal and cab fare reimbursement when a flight from Heathrow to Canada was delayed by 7 hours. I never discovered why the delay was so long. The crew were exhausted So were the ground staff on arrival. The airport would normally have been closed but had to remain open for the 3 am landing. There was no public transport at night so I had to have a cab to drive me home.

That seems quite generous for a three hour delay, but if the Ts & Cs quoted the higher amount that is what should be paid.
