Hello All, im new to this and looking for some help
My husband and I have just booked a cruise in europe with great railway journeys, included in the price is a service where they collect your suitcase and deliver it to the ship for you, Does anyone have any experience with this particular company. Ive searched and AI indicate its positive reviews but the only reviews i can find are the ones on facebook that the company have cut and pasted so they're going to be positive,

My sister uses a service like this regularly. Will ask her about it and get back to you if you've not already heard from others...

I think "Great Railway Journeys" is a programme.
Could it be "Great Rail Journeys"?

I've asked AI to search review forums to find this Baggageman company and this is a cut-and paste:

Based on recent feedback from travel communities like Cruise Critic, Trustpilot, and Railtrail, here is the current "on-the-ground" sentiment regarding The Baggageman as of 2025/2026.
People generally view them as a "gold standard" service, though they are often compared to newer, more tech-focused competitors.
1. The "Human Touch" is the Biggest Selling Point
The most consistent positive feedback is that you can actually speak to a human at their office in Oxfordshire.
The Consensus: Travelers (especially those on high-end tours like Riviera Travel or Great Rail Journeys) love that they don't have to deal with a chatbot. One 2025 review noted that when their flight "went pear-shaped," they were "eternally grateful" not to have a suitcase to worry about.

Reliability: Long-term users report that bags almost always arrive 3-4 days before they do, often waiting inside the hotel room or cruise cabin.
2. The 2025/2026 "Customs" Caution
Following Brexit and new EU import rules, there has been a slight shift in reviews.
The Issue: Some travelers mentioned that the paperwork for taking bags into Italy or Spain has become more detailed.
The Feedback: Users advise being very meticulous with the "pro forma" packing list they give you. If you list "clothing," you're fine; if you have unusual electronics or gifts, it can cause a delay.
3. Comparison with Competitors
Travelers often debate whether to use The Baggageman versus My Baggage or Baggage Handling Company (BHC).

Recent "Red Flags" to Watch For
While 90% of the feedback is glowing, a few recent threads on Cruise Critic mention:
Pick-up Window: Because they use specific routes, the pick-up is usually exactly 7–10 days before you leave. People who are still wearing their holiday clothes 7 days before departure find this stressful.
Communication: One user noted a missed collection where they struggled to get hold of the driver after hours, though the office resolved it the next morning.
Where to see the latest raw reviews:
Trustpilot: Search for "Railtrail Tours" or "Riviera Travel"—many customers mention The Baggageman specifically in their tour reviews.
Cruise Critic: Look for the "UK Cruisers" forum and search for the thread "Baggage handling UK" (updated as recently as late 2025).

Feefo: Check the reviews for The Baggage Handling Company—people often compare the two services directly there.

...this (above) is what it said.
I would be inclined to trust them. A higher end company would not take risks on who they worked with I think.

Friends always travel with Great Rail Journeys and use their luggage service. Never had any problems.

It depends on your age and level of fitness, we travelled with that company last year, we didn’t use the luggage service as we are both fit and able, but there was a lot of transferring from one train to another and not all stations had lifts. It certainly would have been easier to use the service , however , as my husband said, even if we had he would still have lugged cases for the older members of our group! Some of the group used the luggage service and it went smoothly, I believe they only collect the cases a few days before departure. Hope you have a good holiday!
