Torrential rain

While you were or maybe still are enjoying the sun here, in Gran Canary yesterday we experienced torrential rain. Last night when I was about to hit the pillow in my apartment I noticed the end of my bed was very wet also the floor. As the second bed wasn’t affected I decided to use it until I heard a constant drip coming from the ceiling. Due to this I decided to report it at the reception desk who let me have another apartment which I am now in after this morning spending a few hours carting all my stuff as well as what was in the fridge over to this apartment.
At least the manager has been kind by leaving me some fruit, flowers and a bottle of wine in the apartment plus a free meal in the hotel tonight.

I know someone who just came back from a cruise to the Canaries. They didn't share any photos. They didn't even use the pool onboard ship it was so cold and yes, it rained for them too!

I'm not quite sure of the point you are trying to make but we have had our fair share of torrential rain here as well. I wouldn't be surprised if the winter was the wettest on record.
Meanwhile enjoy your holiday, nice apartment, fruit, flowers, wine and a free meal.

We have been to Lanzarote in March when the weather was so cold we wore our coats to go out in the day, and we had rain most days. Friends who got back from Lanzarote recently complained that the weather was cool and rainy.
The canaries can be inclement at this time of year for though temperature averages over a year are impressive, that doesn’t cover every week in the year and the publicity given to tourists about rain only being a paltry few millimetres a year has never chimed with our experience.

Sarnia, although I spent the winter either in Oz or NZ I did hear it was very wet in the uk. I was only bringing up about the weather yesterday and today in the UK which I heard was fine in most places as here, in Gran Canary we experienced tropical rain.
I am only here for 10 days.

Sorry to hear about the wet weather you're having in Gran Canaria. The weather here in eastern England has been sunny and warm the last few days, if a little windy. Lots of pretty daffodils about, along with other spring flowers, it makes you feel good. I've found there's very little to do abroad if the weather is rainy, unlike here, where we're used to bad weather, and there are indoor places to go to. Enjoy the rest of your holiday and I hope it brightens up for you ☀️.

I was on holiday for a month from Mid December to Mid Januart in the Costa Del Sol.
The weather was awful, cold, rain and floods.

I had been there two and three years before at the same time of the year and the weather had been fine.

Hello from sunny Cambs.

So sorry to hear.

It is so dry here that I am having to water my new plants. Not so warm today but washing drying well. I was out an about without my coat yesterday, Wed and Friday. It seems to go up and down temp wise but sunny no sign of rain

We went to just south of Barcelona a few years ago in late Sept and it was gloriously hot and sunny, but very quiet with many shops already shut. The English cafe owner told us that many had packed up for the season because it had been cold with storms and floods the previous week.

If it helps, I'm sitting in the car, waiting to collect my grandsons and its teeming down. It's cold too

Over the years I’ve been to four of the Canary Islands during the winter months and have always had unsettled weather , even in early April . What makes it worse , is other guests comment that it was lovely last week 😬.
However we always hire a car , so the unsettled weather meant we got to explore the islands .

Tenko Tue 24-Mar-26 14:56:54

Oh and we did get some rain in Antigua last week . It only lasted 10 minutes though .

Am also in Cambridge but it’s overcast and quite dull here now!
We were in Spain from mid December to last week in January and the weather was cooler and a bit wetter this year, to our disappointment. It’s usually very agreeable in January.
But at least we still had an extra 2 hours of daylight than we would have done in Britain.

Many years ago we had a January break on Tenerife, we did the beach/pool for a few days then hired a car and tried to drive up Mt Teide, in beach wear! Half way up it started snowing, more and more, when it got to 3 inches deep we turned round.

So sorry you are having rain, it is so disappointing when you go for the sun and warm weather. We went to the Grand Canaries between Christmas and New Year during 2015/16 I think it was and came back as black as berries, it was glorious in the mid to late twenties all the time we were there and I never wore a cardigan even once until we hit Heathrow.
I have also been to Majorca in July and had a solid week of rain with just a bit of sunshine in between. There is no guarantee whereever you are as we know.

raining here today and tonight if that makes you feel any better !

MartavTaurus Tue 24-Mar-26 17:50:46

We've struck lucky. Lisbon is sunny and 22 degrees.

The worst thing was that when we had a week of rain and cool temps in Lanzarote one year people who had been there the week before kept telling us how hot it had been for them a few days ago, and staff in restaurants kept saying how the Island had enjoyed really long heatwave until we arrived.
I did try to keep a stiff upper lip and keep smiling.
