We are going to Jersey in a fortnight for a week.

I cannot believe in my 62 years it’s my first ever visit.

We have 4 nights on our own and 3 staying with friends who have recently moved there.

We will have a car but hope to do some good walks.

Any tips, suggestions gratefully received.

Please don’t be offended, Jersey people understand 😉

Understand what, exactly? Offended about what? Please explain.

Apologies I have been away for a bit.
Sarnia, you have a Guernsey connection so please don’t be prickly.
There has always been a friendly rivalry between the two islands.

We had 5 days in Guernsey two years ago, it is stunning, I didn’t want to come home. Do take a boat trip to Herm for the day it is paradise.

Yes Herm is certainly stunning.

Great to hear. Boat trips are on our list!

Glad to hear it. It seems to have good reviews. Thank you.

Thanks. Our travel agent has arranged a good discount so we're staying at the St Pierre Park hotel which looks nice and has good reviews. I'm so happy to be going. Nice to have it to look forward to.

St Pierre Park is lovely too. It is purpose built. We had a great stay there a few years ago. You will have a great time.

I would add as a slight downside, health insurance is advisable, Channel Island health care isn't reciprocal. Other than that, what gems these islands are. On a massive plus side if you don't like a long journey by plane, a mere half an hour from Gatwick smile

Happy Holidays to those who are visiting their shores this year.

Thanks for this thread. As a direct result of reading the suggestions we're booking for a week in Guernsey in June! Our Jersey trip last year was thoroughly enjoyable so DH took no persuasion for a visit to Guernsey. Now, where to stay? Any suggestions for a usefully located but nice hotel?

Definitley the Old Government House Hotel or the Duke of Richmond. Both in St Peter Port and beautifully located.

I would love to cruise around the Channel Islands but can’t find one going from UK any ideas please I don’t like flying

P & O and Cunard both do cruises to Jersey according to Google 🙂.

MSC cruise ships go from Southampton to Guernsey. 2 nights on board and a whole day in Guernsey.

I found the war tunnels quite upsetting. I think it was about the way the prisoners were made to dig them. I know it was about 60 years ago and l was in my 20's.

Gran22boys Thu 23-Apr-26 21:18:44

My parents honeymooned there and conceived me. I have always felt a strong connection to the island. I love Guernsey too.

Matelda, on my first visit to Jersey I asked my older grandson, 5 or 6, whether he wanted to come into La Hougue Bie.
He didn’t although we could see the tunnel was lit. When I came out I discovered the poor child had been sobbing the whole time in case I didn’t come out again.

I'd always been told it was very expensive but we were pleasantly surprised to find prices pretty much the same as where we live

WithNobsOnIt Thu 23-Apr-26 20:47:41

Not sure whether this has been mentioned. But Devils Hole is really worth a visit. An inland lake caused by collapsed sea caves.

Lived and worked in Jersey in the Seventies for five years and l still think it is very expensive.
Used to be day trips over to Northern France, Cherbourg Area by hydrofoil and ferry.

St. Malo Old town with cobbled streets.

Granville. Home of the Christian Dior Museum

Carteret. Fishing Village.

No Vat in Jersey but have GST of 5 per cent.

Top stores when l lived there were De Gruchy, Voisins and.
Le Gallais.

Also used to be sone very good perfume shops in St Aubin

No NHS or EHIC in Jersey by the way..But I think they have some kind of reciprocal agreement for essential and urgent health care
charges with the UK.

Prescription and other health charges not covered.

Small local hospital in St Helier used to be very basic. So get good additional. Travel Insurance.

Hope this is helpful.

Bon Voyage and have a good trip to Le Balliage de Jersey dans les iles de la Manche.

The zoo has the most amazing charity shop, I still have a beautiful teapot I bought there

I wouldn’t think you would be thrilled by my grandsons very favourite place in Jersey.
It’s a high end car dealership near the airport!
We spent a delightful afternoon at the showroom looking at amazing cars, at least my husband and DGS did, I sat and chatted to a delightful young salesman. He even offered me tea and biscuits. All this after I’d explained that we absolutely wouldn’t be buying!
Almost his best holiday ever,if it wasn’t for the Ferrari garage in the New Forest. They were delightful there too😂

Coconut Thu 23-Apr-26 19:09:45

All the above and more ! A day trip to St Malo on the boat is fabulous.
Son number 2 lives there, so being a dutiful mother I have to fly over every other month at least ! If they go on holiday I go over for 2 weeks and look after the house, doggy and swimming pool too …… it’s a tough life 🤭

We loved Jersey and went to all the places mentioned above. A couple of things worth mentioning - Route du Marais just outside St. Ouen a road lined all the way with Hydrangeas. It was beautiful to drive down and if they are still doing it a trip to France and a coach to Mont St. Michel. It was amazing.
Have a lovely time. We did.

Sorry but we are staying on Jersey and can I just say that Mont St Michel is one of the places on earth I hate the most!

I have done it once, that was one time too many.

It is a family joke that they will all surprise me with a trip over there.

It’s everything I hate, tacky tourist shops, thousands of people climbing up steps they cannot manage and stopping to take photos every 5 minutes, dog s@@t and pickpockets.

Thank you for your suggestions and please keep them coming but Jersey is where we are going and staying, no trips to France, Guernsey, Herm etc.
