Are late deals a thing of the past ?

I am a widow and perfectly happy going on my own to places, having travelled a lot and lived abroad. PreCovid I was happy to go to hostels etc, but now with some mobility problems I need either a lift or ground floor room. However I rarely see any offers for single visitors. I have started looking around for places in september in the UK, but the prices seem a lot higher, so have no great inspiration at the moment.

I don't really know if they do "late deals" as such but I often get offers through from Heartwood Inns - which is a small pub chain. It's co- owned by Raymond Blanc so he oversees the food offering.

I've eaten in a couple of them near where I live and the food is remarkably good.

I do keep looking at the ones with accommodation but unfortunately they aren't where we want to go.

I'd certainly take a look at where they are and their accommodation offerings if looking for a UK break.

If you sign up to Travel Zoo for a very small subscription there is far more choice. A suggestion for you .Broadstairs and Ramsgate are lovely and its v easy to walk between the 2 along the coast. Broadstairs has a fab beach and the Dickens connection! Im sure you will find something.

I found a website called , Great little breaks uk, they have some good deals including evening meals etc . Worth a look

It’s all about dynamic pricing these days.

They seem to get higher nearer the time in the UK

this is how we do it. if you have an idea of a UK place google hotels, guest houses, cottages, caravans etc. then have a look on Facebook see if the places you like have a FB profile. if they do join their site then you can see what they put on. often if they have spaces to fill they will put on the page offers we have had some real bargains

I took my dad to Warners a few times - him and mum used to go often.
If you ring them they can let you know about last minute deals.
Dad’s gone now but they’re such good value that I’m thinking of going on my own and using it as a base for exploring!

If you want to spend a bit more, The Inn Collection group are offering a good summer deal of two nights bed and breakfast with dinner on the first night as well. They are located in Northumberland, North Yorkshire, The Lake District, Durham area, Lancashire.
We have stayed at The Amble Inn regularly and this weekend we are going to Northallerton for two nights.
We have stayed in a few of their inns and they are good value.
The Coaching Inn group is offering 30% discount at the moment and I recommend The Rutland Arms in Bakewell, so good we are returning in September.

I've found it the other way round! With Premier Inn at least. I always stay with them. They put the price up from £60-80 for a night to £200+ if you wait until the last minute.

Cottages.com and Holidaycottages.com both offer discounts on short breaks

I sometimes check Itison for a voucher deal and use Trip Advisor to check reviews and make sure it looks right for us before buying the voucher.

We own two holiday lets, both in Cornwall and it seems the trend is now towards late deals, other owners have said this too. We have discount on one of them for short breaks and the other still has availability for July.

J52 suggests to book directly with the hotel but for many hotel chains you can only do this through a booking site. In the past we've simply gone to an area and booked once we got there, but obviously this is more risky. Sometimes you get a much better deal this way if there is late availability,

I am always on the lookout for offers first I decide where in the Uk we are thinking of going then with the help of Tripadvisor and hotel websites I look for good deals We go for hotels rather than B&Bs as we like somewhere with a decent restaurant and bar. Not necessarily the cheapest places either getting fussy in our old age.

I’d decide on location and then pick individual hotels to see if they have any offers. Often once schools have gone back hotels do 2 or 3 night packages.
I would always book directly with the hotel.

I use travelzoo, free to subscribe and you get email weekly with some good offers.

Or I go on the hotel websites, there are usually some midweek offers or stay and dine incentives.

Keep looking Debbi but we have the same issue. We don’t plan much and doing things last minute is increasingly impossible. We’ve become a nation of planners and control freaks I think, organising things months in advance…it’s crazy to me! Sometimes Travelzoo and secret escapes have good offers…

I dont think they are for going abroad.
Not sure about the Uk.
